I hope the search goes more smoothly this time than it did the last:

A sitting college president is the first of four finalists for the next University of Iowa president, according to a news release Wednesday from the Iowa Board of Regents.

Marvin Krislov, current president of Oberlin College, will visit the UI campus Thursday to meet with faculty, staff, students, members of the community and local elected officials. Krislov’s resume is available on the UI presidential search website.

Krislov will participate in a public forum from 4:45-6:15 p.m. in the second floor ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union. Live video streaming of the public forum and a recording upon its conclusion will available on the UI presidential search website.

Krislov is the first of four finalist candidates invited to participate in a final round of on-campus interviews. The other three candidates are scheduled for visits Friday, Monday and Tuesday. The name of each candidate will announced 24 hours before arriving on campus.

Following the campus visits, the regents will hold a meeting Sept. 3 to interview the candidates and select a new president.

I hate to generalize and jump to conclusions, but I'm not sure what running a private college with under 3,000 students, no medical campus, no graduate or professional programs, and a small handful of marginal DIII athletic programs has to do with the University of Iowa. Was Wartburg's president too busy for an interview or something?

Plus, he is obviously a leftist loon. No thanks

Hopefully less Rawlings and Mason and way more Skorton in the next hire.
I don't think we have that luck. They'll make another uninspiring choice. Mason set the bar low for the university and the Regents will see this as a benchmark to expect less from their choice.

Obviously, how? Please post links to his leftist loony beliefs. Or, well anything disqualifying him. The name just dribbled out. Unless he's your BIL, or an old college friend you can't possibly know anything substantive about him.

Probably because he served in the Office of the Counsel to the President during the Clinton administration:

Office of Counsel to the President,
Washington, D.C.
Associate Counsel
(January 1995-March 1996)

Supervised team vetting and clearance of Presidential appointme

(February 1994-December 1994)

I'm sure none of us know the guy personally, but he is the president of an institution that is widely considered to be one of, if not the, most liberal colleges in the country. So it is probably safe to draw some conclusions from that.

A 1982 Yale College graduate with a degree in political science, Krislov attended Magdalen College, Oxford as a Rhodes scholar. He then returned to New Haven to attend Yale Law School, where he was editor of the Yale Law Journal. Krislov began his law career as a clerk for Judge Marilyn Hall Patel of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Francisco. From 1989 to 1993 he served in an honors program at the U.S. Department of Justice, prosecuting cases involving police brutality and racial violence. He then spent three years at the White House Counsel's office before moving to the U.S. Department of Labor, where he served as Acting Solicitor until leaving the office to become vice president and general counsel at the University of Michigan.

In 1998, Krislov became the first person to serve as both vice president and general counsel at the University of Michigan. As general counsel to the University, he dispensed legal services on matters ranging from defending affirmative action to appealing penalties levied against the Michigan Wolverines basketball team by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In addition to managing legal affairs, Krislov served as co-chair of the President's Task Force on Ethics in Public Life, an initiative designed to consider establishing a center for research, teaching and learning that will integrate academic study with "real-world problems." He was also an adjunct professor at both the University of Michigan's Law School and its Political Science department, where he taught upper-level seminars on public policy and the law.

Maybe. I tried to open the link in the other thread but my computer warned me not to open it.
How does that immediately discount someone from being an effective administrator? My initial concerns in studying his whole resume would be his experience at large institutions, a school with a huge medical campus, and as someone mentioned athletics. Which, like it or not, are a large part of life in today's universities. I'd like to know what all the candidates view their role as in managing the athletic department. I know Gary Barta is keeping a keen eye on this process.

I'm also not sure how his bent to increase minority admissions at his past institutions would mesh with the Board of Regents push to only accept students from the State of Iowa, since there are no minorities here.

Wait, he defended the UM basketball program? No thanks.
Also, too baldy. The Yale and Rhodes Scholar stuff is nice, but, pass.

I don't normally care about the political persuasions of any campus leader (or any other human for that matter), but I think we would want to be careful of hiring anyone running the "most liberal" or "most conservative" anything. Just like I wouldn't want them to use "always" or "never" with any great frequency.

I am expecting a pupet president that will be controlled by Robillard. My guess is that Krislov and Robillard are somehow connected through UM. I know of at least one other person at UIHC in a high position that was brought from UM by Robillard. Smh...

I didn't see one thing that told me he was going to pursue excellence in Hawkeye athletics, which honestly is the only thing I follow. Who are the other 3?

Here's my off the wall prediction: Bill Clinton. Comes in and takes the job in order to win political favor in the state for the Democratic ticket, stays for at least 5-6 months after inauguration of the next POTUS, and leaves suddenly.

They're only releasing that information 24 hours before each is scheduled to appear at the U of I.

Robillard was Chair of Pediatrics at U of Michigan while Krislov was in Ann Arbor.

Bet I make more than both of you. Maybe combined.
So, what college/university did you attend?

If you didn't and have a successful career then great. I'd be interested in knowing that, too. However, your comments about Mr. Krislov ('leftist loon') would indicate you (a) have evidence of extreme leftist politics; or (b) you have an extreme political bias and are quick to make judgments about someone based on insinuations, but not fact.

Hmmm your describing you!!

You obviously have not been around much.
