REGGIE ROBY

Reggie was an absolute beast.

I believe he hit a 55 yard FG while at East Waterloo.

Iowa football owes some of its success to this day to Reggie, as KF learned the value of a good punter through watching him.

A good punt game will always equal winning in a sport called "foot"ball.

Thanks for the post SoFla

I umpired his junior high and high school baseball games so I may be a bit influenced, but I agree completely.

Reggie hit bombs in high school. He hit one at Wash that cleared the “pool house” in right center field. Probably a 430-450 foot shot.

Reggie stayed close with Coach McCarney over the years. We were in Mac’s office one Friday before an ISU v IOWA game and Coach Woodley was there. He coached Reggie in baseball at Waterloo East. He told a story about Reggie once hitting a ball through the side of a barn. Swore up and down it was true. Reggie just stood there smiling.

yes, Taylor was a great puner and will probably always be remembered as the 2nd-best punter in Iowa football history.

It is kind of hard to be numer 1 when you are competing with God, you know.

probably like 30 yrs ago I was in a manager's office here in austin, he had a dolphin's jersey on the wall. he said he was a punter, but got cut because he was beat out by you know who.

Reggie was a great traditional punter. I loved to watch him warm up in Kinnick. He pretty much did the splits at full leg extension. His foot would end up straight above his helmet. Not that unusual for a typical lanky punter, but Roby had tree trunks for legs, which probably added to the loud thump.

The only two other traditional punters that I saw that were equally impressive, launching consistent, spiraling rockets that turned over were Tom Tupa from Ohio State and Greg Montgomery from Michigan St.

Rest in peace, Reggie and Greg. Both gone too soon.
