Incredible that this is the man's 4th "gift" of this type

Abraham Lincoln might be rising up out of his chair to thank this Washington, D.C. businessman.

Thanks to the billionaire philanthropist David M. Rubenstein, one of America’s most iconic monuments will receive some much-needed repairs.

Rubenstein, who has contributed heavily to the National Park Service and Smithsonian Institution in the past has donated $18.5 million to fund the most extensive renovations to the Lincoln Memorial since it opened in 1922

Another statue worshiping a white man? Ugh. I'm donating several million $$$ to have it remade with diversity and inclusivity in mind.

My favorite monument.

Here is a question. . . why does a major national monument like the Lincoln Memorial require a person making private donations in order for it to be repaired and kept up?

You want to know why people hate congress in general?

1. Because congress doesn't supply the meager (in national terms) funds to keep up the Lincoln Memorial so a businessman has to.

2. Because in the midst of the Iraq war mothers, fathers, spouses, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends of soldiers serving there where pooling their own personal money to buy their loved ones life saving body armor because congress couldn't find it in it's heart to make sure every soldier there had it.

What the heck guys. 18M to repair one of the most well recognized and important national monuments in the country should be a quick unanimous voice vote that takes 5 freaking minutes. But no congress can't do that and if they did try to pass it, guaranteed someone in that room would be a dick about the whole thing and try to throw in something more controversial into the bill just so the other party would be forced to vote against it or filibuster so that everyone running against members in the other party can be a giant douche and mislead their voters by telling them that their opponent voted against repairing the Lincoln monument because he's just big of a dick and hates America.

Because it doesn't pander to the poor, promote the nanny state, put money in their pockets or secure them more votes.
