Top 4? Realistically, that chance has now evaporated like a fart in the wind.

It’s all about draws/matchups, of course but I think it’s still realistic to think we can be a sweet sixteen team even without CJ. Am I Crazy?

CJ didn't break his ankle did he? I don't think any of us know exactly how badly he is injured or how long he will be out. There were those that predicted several weeks for the stress reaction to heal, but he missed one game. Let's see how it works out before we toss in the towel.

Sounds like maybe a high sprain, which may be worse in the long run. I’d rather assume we go without and be pleasantly surprised if he’s back than get hopes up. I wouldn’t say that’s throwing in the towel but there is something to be said for reasonable adjustments to expectations. This team is still tough and can play with anyone in the league is everyone is playing well, but unfortunately that is becoming a much bigger “if”.

No more injuries, Garza, Wieskamp, Jordan, Fredrick back next year and a bench that can be counted on for more then just bodies...

2 more wins and getting in the big dance at a 10 or 11 seed with a shot at winning a game or 2 if CJ can be back by then as can knock off a 7 or 6 seed and then have a shot in the 2nd round.

We are 5th with 6 games to go and a game behind 4th.............

I don't think it's totally unrealistic to aim for that 4th spot, but again that just depends on if we can stay healthy (and if Pemsl has finally had his come-to-Jesus moment, and is ready to take advantage of every opportunity he has left with this team)........

Outside of that, we just need to play for the best seed possible for the tournament.

Like I said, it will suck losing that much, but 2 wins has us locked into the tournament. 1 win could put us on the bubble, and if we lose out, then yeah we should probably be worried a little bit, at least.

Anything more than 2 wins to finish this stretch, including the B10 tournament, has us safely in the tournament and looking at no worse than a 7 seed, and as high as a 6, or even a 5 if we can keep winning, and not dropping every other game.

All about whether this team can stay healthy, not break down mentally, and for a few more guys to find their confidence in their offense.

And that's it.....

For that to happen, Iowa needs some people to step up. I get Garza is a stud and needs to be fed, but other guys need to start being more aggressive offensively, at least be a threat. Defensive rebounding and ending defensive possessions is huge, 2nd chance points are killing them right now

They should probably practice boxing out in practice, ya know, if they're not gonna do it in games.........

When CJ went down earlier in the year, yeah they lost at Nebraska but then came back and smoked Maryland. They have shown they can win without him. Top 4 is definitely a reasonable goal regardless if CJ comes back or not.

Iowa has about. 20% chance of being in the top 4 at the end of the season and that doesn’t count loss of cj for any games.

Not realistic to expect top 4, imo.

Revised goal: Get CJ healthy and don't have any other starter injured.

Don't do those 2 and this season is pretty much over :(

From this fan's standpoint, Fran has to quickly figure out how he rotates the players we have left. Playing Garza and Kriener together should be stopped or used sparingly. We should probably slow our game down, because teams will run with us. Run our sets, block out, and rebound.

The revised goal is to make the NCAA tournament and I'm not trying to be negative.

It was ridiculous to talk about if Iowa was going to make the tournament before the CJF injury. Now, IMO, it's at least plausible that Iowa doesn't make it.

Yup make it then see what happens

Couldn’t agree more. 1 win gets us to Dayton I think 2 and we’re in.. tall task with what’s left of this team and our opponents.

I think the biggest deal at this point is going to be foul trouble. If Joe T. continues to pick up a quick foul within the first minute of the game, that puts a lot of pressure on the bench. If Connor picks up first half fouls, that's brutal now. Refs were calling things close at indiana which really puts Iowa at a disadvantage with such a short bench now. Iowa needs to make every foul count and not pick up foolish reach-in fouls on the perimeter or during scrambles. Still, they need to be aggressive (with discipline) to compete.

Unfortunately, and respectfully, yes... ;) I remember Dr. Tom always had bad luck, 1. He was playing against cheating teams, 2. He lost Chris Street, one of my favorites of all time, 3. That mysterious back problem with Settles, 4. Chris Kingsberry acting like a bum.... he had so much potential .....anymore?

Well we should be in great shape. We will be getting back one of our best offensive players in Pemsl. :(:( Do we have any 3 point shooters beside JW? If I was the other team I'd have all five of my players in the paint and take my chances...McCaffery and JW really need to step up...

I am seeing a 1-5 finish with the games left on the schedule. Hope I am wrong just going with my gut.

I thought this would be a year of missing the tourney on the wrong side of the bubble. If they make the field they've exceeded my expectations. No goal revision needed.

Haven't seen this mentioned but a respectable showing in the BTT i.e. winning a game or two which Fran doesn't have a history of may play a large role in our seeding or whether or not we even make the tournament depending on what we can do with this tough closing stretch. Fran has had a tough quantity of adversity to deal with but at the end of the day this team's ability to rebound and defend will likely determine their fate as usual.

Win the remaining home games. Win at least one road game. Win one game in the big ten tournament. Win one game in the NCAA. I think that’s very doable & that’s without CJF. If he comes back, sweet 16 is still on. Listen, this team is depleted, but all year we’ve been saying how much fight they have and that it’s a different group compared to years past. We got some dogs. Those dogs are gonna keep barking.

My fear those dogs have started to wear down a little. This season we have contributing factors with the pile of injuries and guys further down the rotation having to play more minutes and bigger roles than envisioned. I continue to think the style of play contributes to this with wanting to push pace, all the motion on offense, etc. While we saw some solid play on defense early season I think it contributes to lack of effort on that end as the season wears on particularly away from home. IMO we have a mentally tougher group starting to run on fumes just a bit.
