Another "feel good" story for Hawk fans. John Hardt is the athletic directory for the Richmond Spiders and is a two-time graduate (undergrad & law school) of the University of Iowa. John was a very good high school football player (DSM Register "Big Peach" top 22 all-state player in 1980) from Charles City, IA. John was in one of Hayden Fry's first recruiting classes, but never got to play for the Hawks because of a serious neck injury he suffered in practice during his freshman year which ended his playing career. However, Hayden kept him on scholarship (medical hardship) and he was a member of the 1982 Rose Bowl team. Very good guy and has been in athletics administration since leaving Iowa many years ago.
