Super games by 2 of PJ's backups..

Isaiah Moss 14 pts 5-7 (2-4) 2-2 & Brady Ellingson 11 pts 4-6 (2-3) 1-1...BE is now shooting 70% from the field (64% from 3's) perfect 6 for 6 at the line...those obviously wont stay there but with only 2 TO's in 56 min..he is giving exactly what we need off the bench.

Great to see Moss get extended minutes....he is making the case that he should play every game in the top5 coming off the bench.

I thought Moss was a bit of a black hole offensively and was chucking up shots and all of them were not good shots.
If you shoot over 14 times then you better have at least 14 points.
Honestly I thought his performance tonight showed why he red shirted last year. He still has a ways to go but at least he plays defense. If his D stays consistent and his shot selection improves he will move into the top 8 for PT as neither Bohannon nor Ellingson have lit the world on fire.

well you must have been looking at a different game...Moss took only 7 shots making 5 of them..(hit 2 of the 4 threes) and both free throws..

Ellingson has made 12 of 17 this year (70%)...7 of 11 (63%) from 3...and all 6 of his free throws...(which we need right now considering some of the others are really struggling at the line)...I would say those numbers are indeed on fire.

Good stuff bob......I thought Brady and Isaiah played really well.....I also think that Dom is getting there. Not quite where we want or need him but he is getting there.

Kreiner had some really good moments as well.

All that said, this Virginia game is gonna be like playing Wisconsin....and our top group does not appear to be ready yet. First and foremost on the defensive end, but the turnover problem could be huge in this game. That said, they are young and this should be another big learning experience that helps the coaches drive home those learning points.

I like it when Fran tried to spin "we are not that young" after the Seton Hall game...I understand why (no excuses thing) but Fran you "are". You've got 3 experienced players returning (2 of them played less than 20 min)...every combination out there is now 4 games in learning to play with each other.

I agree Dom's upside is tremendous..when they doubled Williams..Uhl looked good running the ball up the court..his pass to Cook was nice. Sometimes I think he plays not to make a mistake. He is tied with Cook for offensive rebounds while playing 5 less minutes. Needs to get a lot better with put backs. I hope Fran gives him a little more slack...let him play through a few more mistakes.

Agree with Kriener...I'm not sure why CW did not play much in the 2nd half (as was the case against Savannah as well)...its not like he is all that experienced...maybe his back is still an issue.

I think you have look at the situation. Fran says he wants guys to be more aggressive and take shots. Moss has played exclusively in garbage time, so what better opportunity to get some shots up?

he has not played exclusively in garbage time....in fact he has entered all 4 games played in the 1st half. Yes we have played 3 games against less talent but that scenario would also apply to everyone else on the team. It is a little easier to do anything against those teams.

Against Seton Hall he played 2 minutes in the 1st half then we never saw him again..that's not enough time to be aggressive & determine how he would have done against a team like SH. It will be interesting to see how he does against Virginia ...assuming he plays more than 2 minutes.

Hoping Moss is figuring things out. In earlier games he seemed to shoot it every time he touched it. Last night he seemed much more relaxed. He forced a couple transition situations, but all in all he played very well and let the game come to him. He could be key to defending the perimeter as well.

I like how Brady is playing. He understands what his role is. Appears most players are playing with some tension as they compete for playing time, but Brady seems to be in a good place.

I agree on Kriener, he's active, moves well and might give us more of a presence around the paint. Something that has been lacking in the first few games.

Last thing, how does Cook get 3 rebounds against Setan Hall and 2 against Rio Grande. He played big minutes in both games. If he's going to play 28 to 30 minutes and average 3 rebounds, were in trouble. Come on big fella, this team needs 15-18 points a game/game, but more importantly it needs 8 boards, 2 blocks and no turnovers.

Brady Ellingson shooting 94% (!) on 2's last year is one of my favorite random stats.

To be honest...Brady's numbers are excellent. He is only gonna get 5 minutes in big games so keep it up Brady. He is doing exactly what he is supposed to do.

Again Brady is not Josh Oglesby 2.0

He can hit the three ,drive the ball and has a good pull up game

IMO, Ellingson is a situational player at best. On a team with defensive challenges, putting him out there in space against a quick guard is a blow by waiting to happen. Offensively he is a spot up / open look shooter. He put the ball on the floor twice against Seton Hall and got it ripped both times. I think some do not recognize the difference in defensive intensity from Texas Rio Grande Alamo Technical College in a paycheck game vs. real competition.

He has a quick release, has shown he can knock down shots and is gaining confidence. I would love to see him have a breakout season, but he needs to be set up by a PG dribble driving and kicking or inside / out with a post. He isn't going to beat anyone of the bounce and rise up for a jumper like Jok.

Any perimeter contributions will help ease the burden on Jok, so I hope he stays confident and finds a role.
