RIP very professional announcer especially during NCAA games loved listening to him .
The way he talked about sports was iconic.
He just beat the year end.

In March, 2024, Gumbel missed his first NCAA tournament since 1997 due to what he said at the time were family health issues. Gumbel was the studio host for CBS since returning to the network from NBC in 1998.

Wow! I had no idea he was a Loras grad. With Curt Menafee of FOX a Coe grad, and Paul Burneister of NFL Network an Iowa grad, is it a pre-requisite for any iconic NFL studio host to go to college in Eastern Iowa?

he did. It was a source of pride in Dubuque. Something you heard about growing up. Tony Danza went to UD. That was another thing.
I was legit surprised when i saw he was 78. One of those guys that just seemingly was fixed in my brain as being so much younger than that.

Really sad news. He deemed like one of the good guys. When I first saw this I thought “what was he , 55?” No clue he was 78. RIP Greg.
