Isn't it better to have a set rotation? It just seems to me that Fran is feeling his way through it. Kriener comes out of nowhere. Now somehow Jones is going to play? Something has got to give. Or is he going to give a bunch of guys 5-7 minutes a game?

Personally i think he's done a better job of bringing in the hot hand of the night. Obviously there are those who are going to be given a bigger chance to "play through" an off night, but look at Uhl a couple of games ago. I've been less than impressed with his season (as have many of us) but the kid played great and was the reason we were successful that night.
Same with Kreiner; kid gets some minutes--arguably due to foul troubles for our bigs--and takes advantage of them. Fran stays with him and he gets good time against NW.
Before there were many on here who complained about him being too loyal to certain kids (Oglesby comes to mind), but with our "depth" i can totally understand sticking a kid in for 4-6 minutes and see if that happens to be his "on" night.

I think the way he's divided up minutes this year has made more sense than prior years. Hot hands are staying out there longer.

Disagree. The players have been inconsistent in their individual performances. I don't see it as a good strategy to cement a group's minutes and playing time despite them not performing while leaving others on the bench that might give you something, like Kreiner, just for consistencies sake.

You mean consistent turnovers and not moving feet on D -- pretty sure that's why they've gone 11 deep. The Hawks would probably be down 30 right now if they'd have gone with an 8-man rotation.

The problem with playing so many players and not any regular rotations is that the players do not have a good sense of what their teammates are doing. Being at the game this is very evident and tonight was the worst since Kreiner was in the game more and then he injected Jones in the mix too. Lots of pointing for where somebody needed to go which takes away from the natural reaction of actually playing. I understand that foul trouble or an injury requires adjustments but I would bet that joBo had spent very little time in practice with Kreiner and Jones on the court with him as an example. At times it looks like Fran is experimenting during the game since so many guys are in and out

Fran's got the problem of average guard play and too many kids of near-equal ability at the 4 and 5.

I actually thought Jones looked like he can play. Which just adds to the confusion.

You hope this would be settled by conference play.

That is part of our problem.
But there is talent now and invthe future.

It's up to the coaching staff to find the best combinations.

I'd rather have lots of guys getting shots at PT this year and see who emerges over time. It's better than the football approach of sticking with whoever wins the job in August unless there is an injury regardless of performance. Competition can be good. If I thought there was a real chance at the NCAA tournament I might prefer a stricter rotation and hope they improve over the season. Right now it seems we are short on guards and long on 4/5 types going into the next few years so let's find out who can do what this year and let the roster work itself out going forward.
