It has been discussed many times over Fran’s tenure that he tends to sometimes play too many guys, going deeper into his rotation than the talent deserves. Other times he has his two fouls and sit policy or sticks too long with a player who is struggling. What appears to be the case this season is Fran may actually have the depth to go into playing 9-10 guys each game without much of a dropoff. He can sub out guys who are struggling on a particular night, or play guys whose skill set fits the needs of that game. More offense or more defense, whatever is needed. Last night was a good example. We struggled offensively but were worse defensively. The last ten minutes Fran seemed to play only his best defenders, I assume hoping the D would bring offensive opportunities or energy. Worked last night. Hope it continues because the schedule gets much tougher down the road.

Keep in mind that Kris wasn’t available last night. That would have helped the defense and rebounding. He would have changed up the rotation and helped with scoring options. One key player can change the whole dynamics.

Wouldn’t mind seeing this lineup:

JT
Ulis
Perkins
Keegan
Kris
Thats definitely not the best offenseive line up but it might be the best overall line up because of how good it would be defensively.

Although I've like pretty much everything I've seen defensively out of Rebraca so far too.

I think he has 10 guys he trusts right now. And when B1G play starts, I think we run into problems because we don't have much size down low coming off the bench.

And we really can't afford Keegan and/or Filip getting into foul trouble.

Joe
JBo
Patrick
Keegan
Filip

Kris
Connor
Payton
Perkins
Ulis

We really only have four effective bigs. That's pretty thin. McCaffery may have to swallow hard and actually play a guy with two fouls in the first half once the bullets really start flying. Rebraca made a big difference once he returned for the second half.

On a macro level FM values offensive ability over defense which can be frustrating sometimes. You can see how last night good defense leads to easy offense a lot of the time.
