Rough Start For Hoiberg

Wow....that's to bad. I watched the start of that game....literally a few minutes. I thought Nebraska should win it but thought it might be uncomfortable....didn't think it would be that uncomfortable.

Id like to comment but I have no idea what his roster looks like. I have no idea what any roster outside of Iowa looks like. Its CBB. One and done and transfers.

It's going to be a long year for Husker basketball fans, they might go 0-20 this year in the BIG.
Wait, so does that mean that the Nebber at work who told me the day they hired Freddy last spring to “get ready to never beat us in football OR basketball” was talking about NEXT year?!

Man, it’s always next year with those guys...

Laugh while you can.

By year three they’ll be legit. Unlike Frost, Hoiberg is very good and they’ll spare no expense to move up in the league.
Ok....

Will he last that long?

None of us have a crystal ball to say year 3 they will be legit...its nebby bball and nebby bball and legit should never in any way be used in the same sentence...

Heres my crystal ball prediction...nebby no matter who the coach is will never be legit...

Most would agree, great hire by Neb. But if one looks carefully at his resume, while full of good stuff, there isn’t really major championships or deep runs ...

sure the big 12 tournament titles are awesome and he had some players at ISU who were NBA caliber. But his ISU teams only made it past the round of 32 one time and lost in the S16, he had no prior head coaching experience prior to ISU, he failed at the Bulls. His schemes are a lot of 1 on 1, my best guy can beat your double team.

So I may have a different opinion than most, but Fred still hasn’t proven a whole lot and Husker fans need to pump the brakes on him because it will also take time for Fred.

Freddy got hero status at a program who put a statue in front of their arena of a guy who never made it to the final 4 (got past hte second round once)and was almost 40 games under .500 in the pillow fight know as the Big 8.

He better hope he finds another Royce White laying under a rock or some Sparty castoffs off to have this thing turned around by year 3 again.

I had flashbacks of the Lickliter era watching this game last night. Lose by 19 and don't break the 50 pt mark. It's going to be a long cold winter for Hoiberg in Lincoln. I hope he is stocked up on his heart medication.

Only one sweet sixteen in five seasons (4 tourney appearances and 4 tourney wins in five years + 2 conference tourney championships... at Iowa freaking state?)?

You’re right, he hasn’t proven a whole lot.

Remind me again how many tourney wins Fran has in TEN seasons at Iowa. Remind me how many conference championships he has in TEN seasons at Iowa.

Sure, he could crash and burn but I doubt it. They will give him all the resources he needs and more to succeed. Time will tell but that program is a buy, imo.

Hope you're right. The difference between his ISU days and now is that the transfer market is much more competitive......almost everyone is using transfers now, which he used to his advantage greatly in Ames. Can he get the right players to Lincoln if everyone else is after them as well? That's the million dollar question.

In less than three years? Lol. You don’t watch a lot of college basketball do you?

Yeah, it's more likely he would resign to take an NBA front office job.

I was shocked when Hoiberg took the Nebraska job since it's pretty well known how much he hates recruiting.

Of course, it would be kinda funny if he does build something at Nebby. I'm sure there would be a lot of Cyclone fans with chapped asses.

Any program with one tournament win has more than Nebraska does...ever

Down 19 to UC-Riverside. I don’t care if you pieced together a roster, a B1G team should beat a team that was 10-23 last year.

I’d be in seventh heaven if Hoiberg AND Frost failed.
Are you saying you do not like either of those fellas? Do you know them or do you have something against the state of Nebraska?

The myth of Fred Hoiberg as a great basketball coach
continues to this very day. Whether at Ames with the
Cyclones or at Chicago with the Bulls, Freddy never
did anything in the postseason games.

Bottom Line: Hoiberg is a Hoax

I not talking about Iowa basketball program, I am not satisfied with the results over 10 years with Fran.

If Fred gets similar results to what he got at Iowa State, then it will be a win for all parties.

If you asked me is Fran or Fred a better coach, prior to the Bulls, I would say Fred without a doubt.... today I would still say Fred but it’s a lot closer. He has to prove he his time at the Bulls was a fluke and rebuilding at a Nebraska basketball is no easy task.

Hoiball turned around ISU by year 2 because he was one of the only schools snagging transfers. Now, everyone is.

Tougher environment as unless he has a high level recruiter doing it for him, will be difficult to win in the B10.

This is year was always going to be rough for Nebraska. Their roster is horrible right now and he was left with nothing. Wait until year 3 to judge.

Wouldn't write off Nebraska quite yet. Freddie finished at .500 and last in the Big 12 his first year in Ames. He went on to win 115 games in five years.

I'm rather sensitive about the coverage Iowa gets on BTN, but was not surprised to see they devoted an hour to the Bugeaters summer trip to Europe. Nice commercial for the program. I don't remember any coverage of our trip a few years back.

Ok...he said 3 years they will be legit...

We never mention his employment status in 3 years...

I never said he would quit or be canned in 3..

All I said was debbie wont be legit in 3 years...or ever...

Jesus...do you just read threads and not fully grasp or understand convos?

Anyway....debbie will never be shit in bball...and freddie will be retired or fired in 5 years...

Mentioned in another post say it again. Hoiberg got lucky and landed an all american talent in White. Got some Sparty players kicked off their team and now seeing his son be a walk on for Izzo no surprise now how they were steered towards Ames.

An analogy I'll bring up with Hoiberg not guaranteeing success is Chip Kelly. Ran the up tempo spread before anyone did. Rest of the sport caught on and look at what he has done at UCLA since returning. Hoiberg really first one to use the blue print to quickly turn a program around with grad and regular transfers. Now that he's back is common place and seeing blue bloods like KU and Kentucky even do it now. Key for him is can he land any 4 year talent like he did with Niang or Morris. Tough task to do at non bball school like Nebraska.

Lol. I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess (hope) that you’re not an Iowa alumnus.

That's my thought. This is no offense because I still very much like Hoiberg and respect the heck out of him, but by this point he'd already basically gotten 5 sit out transfers that were going to be his team in his second year, and he'd loaded up on sit out transfers to immediately replenish the talent level. I just don't think that's going to be available to him at NE.
