North Carolina lost in the last second to a non ranked team Texas in the last second. Texas missed a last second shot and then made it as time is running out with another shot. Even with elite PG Marcus Paige. The end of time is near....... :)

It sure did. I'm also kind of tired of all the big name coaches who intimidate the refs as well. Izzo does it all the time. Hoping our Hawks will beat Mich. St. as Florida scared them pretty good.

Not going to get rid of these sorts of things in the current format. Maybe once the P5 conferences separate completely from the rest and players become some sort of quasi-employees, but even then there will probably be corruption/unfairness.

As for Roy Williams, Texas isn't ranked but not a horrible squad either. They have talent but not quite sure what type of team they are between Shaka's style and Barnes' players. On the road its not the worst loss in the world, especially since Texas' PG is no slouch as a matchup against Paige.

Because NC has lost a couple of games this year, including to unranked Texas he should be gone? Didn't he win 2 NC there? By that measure, pretty much everybody but Coach K, Pitino, and Calipari should be fired.

Not sure how many games Marcus Paige missed but think he was expected to be out longer than he was. Prior to the loss to Texas Paige didn't play in their first loss.

Just like isu, why do we care about Roy Williams?

I was just being sarcastic after the Ia. loss to Ia St. Everybody after Fran so, thought I would remind everyone that it happens to the good ones too. (Roy Williams) ( Marcus Paige) That's all. I don't care about NC at all.

I can't wait for Roy Williams to retire as I can't stand the guy. He's a weasel.

I will say, if Iowa or Iowa St had a basketball program that wasn't in a coaching transition or didn't stink at the time.....then he wouldn't have been as likely to get the best Iowa high school recruits when he did.

Which time was that? 1994, 1999, 2010, or 2012?

Lol. I got that right away. Seemed obvious to me.

Roy has a little thing called equity on his side. And some creative professors can't hurt either:)

Ha ha. I was just going to say that.

1994 - with LaFrentz - Iowa had a chance as they had decent teams, but KU was much better. Iowa St wasn't viable as they were going through a coaching change from Orr to Floyd.

- 1999 - with Collison and Hinrich - both Iowa and Iowa St were going through coaching changes. The new coaches didn't have a chance to build the relationships. Hinrich was even verbally committed to Iowa St prior to Tim Floyd leaving.

- 2010 - with Barnes - Iowa and Iowa St were terrible then. Iowa St almost got him, but that's only because he lived in Ames and was a legacy Clone

- 2012 - with Paige - after the coaching changes, neither school's coach was a proven commodity to prove they could win....especially with competing vs UNC

I really think Iowa or Iowa State gets 3 or 4 of those guys if each program was as solid as they are today.

What is ya, retreaded? All of them.

Iowa probably would have had Collison if Tom Davis had not been given a lame duck year by Mary Sue Coleman. I don't think we had a chance with any of the others.

I think this is probably a good guess. At least, it's consistent with the rumors I've heard. Strictly from the ISU standpoint....

Lafrentz -- ISU was never in the picture. His Dad reportedly hated ISU.

Hinrich -- committed to Tim Floyd. Obviously would have gotten him. However......if Larry has Hinrich, does he take a chance on Tinsley out of JC? And without Tinsley, does ISU win two league titles? (answer: No).

Collison -- I don't think ISU was a major player there.

Barnes -- We will never know what might have happened if Fred had been the coach instead of McDermott.

Paige -- from what the Eastern Iowa media said at the time, he always wanted to be a Tarheel.

I think ISU would have had a legit shot at Barnes had Fred been there. In fact, I think he would have been a Clone had Fred been there a few years earlier.

The bizarre thing, I think, is that neither ISU nor Iowa pursued Doug McDermott.

Iowa should have gotten Lafrentz, Collison & Paige
ISU should have gotten Hinrich and Barnes.
It is weird that none of them went after McDermott.

One thing I'm certain is Kansas and UNC will not get the next great player out of Iowa.
Fran has shut down the border.

That's my point. You can't say the Roy was lucky because of the timing when it happened 4x over a 20 year period. That's more of a statement of him having strong programs and ISU and Iowa not being consistently strong to get those recruits.

I still maintain that Greg McDermott really didn't expect his son to be as good as he was. One example of that is that he fully planned to redshirt Doug prior to his freshman season, but then Doug started off so strong in practices that he didn't. Had Greg's job been a little more stable at Iowa St, I do think that Doug would have been a Cyclone.

I have two theories as to why Greg McDermott didn't pursue his son.

1. He underestimated the talent level of his own son, possible.
2. He didn't recruit him to ISU because he probably figured his days as coach at ISU were numbered and then Doug would have to red shirt a year if he wanted to transfer when/if his dad left.

I didn't know anything about Doug McDermott or Harrison Barnes play at Ames High until their senior year. Ames high school played a highly regarded Illinois team on national TV that year and McDermott way outplayed Harrison Barnes and was named the MVP of the game.

Let's also remember that McDermott was also primarily a reserve on the Ames HS team until his senior year. I saw him a few times in high school and he continued to improve the entire time.

Maybe McDermott was already feeling the heat and didn't want to subject his son to the scorn of the Clone fans.

You are one hateful dude. Rivalry doesn't have to be everything hate but it seems that is the only emotion some of you seem to have. Jealousy makes for a mean spirit.
