RPI Watch

I think he meant that he’d be shocked if the Committee limited its selection of B1G teams to just 2.

INSERT “only” between “committee” and “took.”
Gotcha, makes sense, create clear separation between us and Illinois since they took a series from us!

Correct and really all it would take is them losing 1 to Penn St and us sweeping Indiana. They are already at 82 in the RPI.

Penn State might have just burst Pitt's bubble tonight, beating them 19-6. Hopefully they can do the same to Illinois!

No games today for any conference, but we will learn the RPI numbers for the Iowa/Indiana matchup at midnight.

Hawkeyes are currently 65th and 28 points behind Pittsburgh in 59th. Very reachable if Iowa sweeps.

59 would look a whole lot better than 60.

Pittsburgh will gain points this weekend even with being swept quite possibly. It is a home series for them so maybe not.

Teams immediately ahead of Iowa on RPI ladder (Iowa is #66):

#65 UCLA (ahead of Iowa by 11 points): Weekend series at #2 RPI (#2 ranked) Oregon State
#64 Davidson (12 points): Weekend series hosting #197 RPI George Mason
#63 Missouri (15 points): Weekend series at #7 RPI (#25 ranked) Georgia
#62 VCU (15 points): Weekend series hosting #266 RPI Fordham
#61 Xavier (16 points): Weekend series hosting #216 RPI St. John's
#60 Belmont (25 points): Weekend road series at #164 RPI Southern Ill Edwardsville
#59 Pittsburgh (28 points): Weekend series hosting #25 RPI Georgia Tech

FWIW . . .
Iowa leads #67 Southwest Missouri by 6 points, #68 Charlotte by 34 points, #69 Nevada by 37 points and #70 Southern Illinois by 41 points.

FWIW #2: The numbers above are from the Warren Nolan site. d1 Baseball has different RPI calculations. Very similar grouping of teams; deck is just somewhat shuffled. Iowa is #67 in d1 Baseball's calculations: https://d1baseball.com/nitty-gritty/

FWIW #3: College Sports Madness does not have Iowa in its latest projections: https://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/20611 d1 Baseball and Baseball America's projections come out later this morning. Iowa has advanced to one of the first four teams out in its latest projections: https://www.collegebaseball.info/post/may-17th-2022-ncaa-tournament-field-of-64-projection

#58 Campbell (50 points) hosts Radford (15-31) 259 RPI Likely losses ground with a sweep
#55 Louisiana (71 points) hosts Little Rock (23-24) 188 RPI Likely losses ground with a loss

Iowa could theoretically catch 64, 62, 61, 60, 59, 58, 55 just by holding serve RPI wise and having those teams stumble.

Add in Columbia at 57. They are playing Penn in a 3 game series for the Ivy League autobid. We want Penn to win that because they may be in either way.

Unless Penn were to lose to Bucknell today, which I did not know was happening. If they were to lose I’d bet the loser of that Ivy League series is out. Penn would fall to the mid 50s with a loss today.

Must sweep territory is never good, especially with the inconsistencies of Iowa's pitching staff this season. Hopefully everyone is on this weekend.

UCLA about to win a huge game against #2 Oregon State. Up 4-1 in 9th. Iowa can’t catch UCLA in RPI by season end if UCLA wins: even with 2 more Iowa wins and 2 more UCLA losses.

So we go up against their #1 tonight.....need to get back at that bullpen again. Question is can our starter give us 6 solid innings and how much did we use up of our bullpen last night? Getting interesting fast!

Their number one has an ERA of 4.75? Yes please.

Iowa is going with Nedved tonight instead of Schultz, he has been the better pitcher as of late.

Gotta give Davitt a ton of credit for saving the bullpen last night, he pitched the final 4.1 innings and secured the win. Iowa is in much better shape with the bullpen than Indiana.

Indiana has zero left in bullpen tank. We need to come out roaring tonight again and knock out starter early or at least work counts and get the pitch count up! Let's go!!!!

What is the RPI gain with a win today and tomorrow? Are we still Mich fans so we can catch Rutgers and get to the #2 or #3 line for the tournament?

Iowa is #62 in both d1 Baseball and Nolan’s RPI calculations.

According to Nolan’s site, an Iowa loss and an Illinois win would almost certainly see Illinois passing Iowa in the RPI standings.

That, to me, is the “doomsday” scenario for today’s games.

Cannot understate the importance of Iowa pulling off the sweep.

17-7 in B1G.
Winning 7 of 8 series.
Winning series on road at Ann Arbor and Piscataway.
A starting staff that, if on, can lead to a Regional win.
Star power in Mazur and Williams.
No worse than tie for 2nd.
RPI in low 60s.

That keeps Iowa deep in the discussion for an at-large.
