Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Sunday earned the coveted endorsement of a Virginia newspaper that usually refrains from backing candidates in competitive primaries.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch, the leading daily newspaper in the state’s capital, delivered its endorsement just two days before the Virginia primary on Tuesday — months before it typically weighs in on the race.

“After considerable reflection, we have decided that standing on the sidelines as Virginians go to the polls Tuesday would be a dereliction of our duty,” the Times-Dispatch editorial board wrote.

While the Times-Dispatch endorsed former GOP nominees John McCain and Mitt Romney in face-offs against Barack Obama, the paper rarely supports a candidate during a primary.

“It is the flaws of two men seeking the Republican nomination that pushed us into abandoning our usual practice of making a presidential endorsement in the waning weeks of October,” the editorial board wrote, arguing that the “election of Donald Trump or Ted Cruz would not serve the best interests of the nation or the Republican Party.”

A poll released Sunday morning showed that GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has a large lead in Virginia, while Rubio is battling for second place with Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas).

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) is endorsing Marco Rubio’s White House bid, the Florida senator's campaign announced early Sunday.

"Marco Rubio is the conservative candidate who can inspire us, win the election, and lead our country," Alexander said in a statement. "The stakes are high. If our nominee does not win,Hillary Clinton’s justices will control the Supreme Court for 30 years and we’ll be stuck with Obamacare forever.

"I have watched Marco up close. I have seen him take the lead in passing new laws to impose tough new sanctions on Hezbollah terrorists, and to get rid of incompetent managers who weren’t doing their jobs to help veterans. He has proposed good new ideas for giving students more options for college. I am convinced he would be a strong and effective president of the United States," he added.

The prominent conservative founder of Hobby Lobby on Sunday endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for president while ripping apart GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

David Green, founder and CEO of the arts-and-crafts chain store, said he will vote for Rubio this week in his home state of Oklahoma, which is one of a dozen states holding primaries on Super Tuesday.

“Marco Rubio has impressed us with his preparation and the way he carries himself. But most importantly, Marco regularly exhibits humility and gives the glory to God,” Green wrote in a statement.

“I don't see humility in Mr. Trump, and that scares me to death,” he said.

These prominent folks are worried about the wrong thing at this point. It's no longer about finding someone electable. The GOP is being fractured by the minute. The issue is now existential. Popcorn time!

I bet not many people losing their jobs to foreign visa workers are voting for them.

The Disney story is just sad.
