Russian Officials Admit Doping

http://www.espn.com/olympics/story/...l-conspiracy-doping-hundreds-olympic-athletes

I'm surprised they have finally admitted this was a systematic state sponsored practice. No details on specific sports or athletes, but it was happening during Olympic competition.
Have you heard anything about the Russian wrestlers and doping? I have seen reports about other athletes, but have not seen info about the wrestlers. Makes sense that the wrestlers were doping also.

Saludaev vociferously denied it, but he'd be far from the first high-profile athlete to dope while denying it.

I have little doubt that Russia's wrestlers were/are doping. Felt the same way over the summer. It made no sense that only their track and field athletes would be doping, when it was a far-reaching government-sponsored scheme. Couldn't believe the IOC let everyone else from Russia compete.

The only thing that surprises me is that Russia has admitted it. The evidence must be so incontrovertible that they simply had no choice but to admit it or look like Baghdad Bob, denying the truth when it's obvious to the world that they're lying.

Two thumbs up on the Baghdad Bob reference.

Abdulrashid Sadulaev is a devout Muslim from Dagestan - as were Buvaisar Saitiev and Adam Saytiev. They wrestled under the Russian flag, but I doubt if they're tight with the Russia sports/medicine machine as Dagistan is essentially at war with Russia. That doesn't mean they weren't doping, but I'd be surprised with these three were.

IMO the Russians are systematic cheaters and have been for decades. However, I've always believed that some of our wrestlers were (and are) doping. Hell, the NFL is full of dopers. We have the same issues.

I stoppped being surprised at anyone being a doper about 15 years ago.

Speaking of doping, I hear tOSU is a three point favorate oover Clemson.

Now Russian officials are backtracking. Apparently they're not ready to admit wrongdoing despite ample evidence against them.

On Wednesday, the RUSADA issued a statement saying Antseliovich was misquoted and her words were taken out of context. New York Times reporter Rebecca Ruiz tweeted that the newspaper stands by its story and that "all quotes in our story today are accurate."

Magomedmurad Gadzhiev -- the "Pole" who Frank Molinaro beat in Rio -- was initially disqualified from the Olympic trials for doping. He's a Dagestan Muslim who competed for Russia before moving to Poland.

In any case, we've seen so many instances of athlete abuse in totalitarian states, that we shouldn't assume they have the ability to object.

If I had to put my money on one russian it would be Boltukaev. Dude was physically dominating everyone prior to the Olympics and then (under greater scrutiny?) had his performance drop off in Rio.

Isn't there speculation that Sadulaev is a couple of years older than he claims? Might have won a cadet title or two being too old. Doesn't matter now that he is killing senior level folks these days.

I'm just joking around about Sadulaev - he's the best. It would break my heart if he were doping.

I'm confident every single one of them had substances in their system that are not allowed under Olympic rules. Whether they took them willingly or unwittingly took them as part of their training diet does not matter regarding past performances in the eyes of officials. I expect every medal from Beijing through Rio to be stripped from Russia before this is finished, and it may stretch to before 2008. We also can continue to expect the Olympic committee to keep Russia out of PyeongChang in 2018 (letting the heads of specific events federations to allow unattached similar to how it was done for Rio) unless public contrition is given.

If you live with your head not in the sand you will no that we just have better doctors. If you are a professional athlete or Olympian you are on illegal drugs. If you do not believe that you are naive.

does anybody remember the east german womens swim team, wow
Kornelia Ender has Shirley Babashoff's Gold medals in my book.

Let's not forget another great one, Artur Tayzamov, from the Ossetia region, and near Dagestan). Arthur Taymazov. Stripped of his 2008 Olympic Gold Medal for doping. It's ok, he still keeps his Golds from 2004 and 2012. No way he did any PEDs.
