Rut Row - 5-star basketball prospect just committed to...

$$?

In 2011, Blakeney left coaching for the private sector, working at Under Armour in the company's marketing division. He'd return to coaching in 2018 joining the coaching staff at Columbia. On May 6, 2019, Blakeney was named the 10th head coach in Howard men's basketball history, replacing Kevin Nickelberry. Blakeney signed the top recruit in Howard history, Makur Maker, on July 3, 2020.

Yes because no black coach could develop a player as good as a white coach. Not possible. What a disgusting attitude.
An actual smart response from you would be to point out that Howard's coach is only in his second year and deserves time to prove himself. Especially considering that Howard has only finished above 300 in Kenpom once this decade and needs time for a rebuild.

Instead you pull the race card even though you were the first one to mention skin color.

People are going to question why Howard and not another school with a more proven coach in place. The player is probably aiming to be one and done, but he's only 18th in the 2020 class. That's not a bonafide lottery lock if things go south. Only 15 freshmen were drafted in 2019.

It's his decision at the end of the day. Could go well or poorly like any college decision.

You’re part of the problem. There’s nothing wrong with my response unless you are coming from a place of white privilege. Kenny Blackeny knows so much more about basketball than you, to even question his ability to develop players is laughable.

Well of course Howard has finished below 300 in the Kenpom forever. There’s a reason for that. They play in a league that gets zero tv play, in a small conference with zero money. You have idea if this guy can coach or not. Give him 3 top 100 players however and let’s see what happens. They are getting players nobody else wants, below Lickliter talent. If the players as some are saying decide to start going to traditional black schools things could turn around quickly. I’d love it.

The guy will never set foot on Howard's campus as a student. He'll go to the GLeague. If he was serious about playing at a HBCU he would have picked one that had a shot at making the NCAA's. This was just about making a statement without having to actually take the risk.

Or again, maybe going to school at the “Black Harvard” isn’t too bad an idea.

You talked to him, I guess.
Some kids these days have had enough of BAU. Time will tell. I praise him at this point in time.
