Looking at the rest of the schedule, it’s getting harder and harder to find games that seem like opportunities for a win. This coming weekend is one of those games, though.

The rest of the schedule breaks down like this:
@Rutgers
vs Michigan L
@Illinois W
@OSU L
vs Northwestern W
@Purdue L
vs Wisconsin L
@Minnesota L
vs Nebraska W

We are 2-1, and I see 3 more wins on the schedule, with Rutgers being a toss up. I suppose it’s possible Iowa wins at Purdue but I don’t see it at this point.

I hate to say it so early in the season but Saturday is kind of a must win just to salvage a Pinstripe Bowl appearance.

That OL needs as much practice as they can get.
Didn’t seem to do much last year. They’re worse now. I realize TL is gone but the rest have regressed.
I don’t think this team gets to bowl eligibility. Improvement against a Pop Warner defense this weekend won’t translate to the B1G. Hell Spencer tried his best to overthrow a wide open Bruce for the TD but Bruce saved him with the dive. Had that fallen incomplete, the crowd reaction would’ve been…..ugly.

The Rutgers game is only critical to be one of our 4 wins this season. Bowl game is not a possibility.

Really? 8 months later what they did is going to matter.

I have always been skeptical of that.

not to mention they practiced for months leading up to those extra practices. If it didn’t sink in from July -November what is a few extra practices going to do?
You're not the only one skeptical. It's just something that coaches and media make a big deal about for teams going to minor bowl games, trying to make the benefits sound so much better. Has a coach ever come out and said during fall camp "Yeah, those December practices last year really have paid dividends going into this opening weekend." GMAFB.

That's my point as well. Kirk isn't one to play the future as evidenced so far this season (and past seasons) so bowl prep doesn't really change much going forward.
If someone would do the research, I will wager there have been more underclassman starting and getting prime game time over the past 10 years, as compared to Kirk's time before. Today there are 19 underclassman on the 2-deeps including 4 freshman. I know that doesn't apply to QBs

In general it seems the youth movement has occurred much more than in the past, but boy is there one glaring exception.

I think it’s too early to throw in the towel on those big ten west games. Sure the offense is awful- but the defense is really good and the big ten west teams all have massive flaws too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see iowa pull a few of those out that you have marked as losses.

We could lose at Illinois. I think we beat Purdue only b/c Kirk will take viagra for that game. 6-6 is about right. Great D and horrible O. Oh what could have been.

Careful. The geniuses here often have interesting reaction to facts entering the thread

While it is true that we need to get every toss up game we can, I do think we're still good enough in 2 of the 3 phases to pull off our usual one "upset" for the season. This year, though it will only come from one of Purdue, Wisconsin, or Minnesota.

We will win one of those games, and if I had to bet (which I usually lose on often.....), I'd say we beat Purdue.

I think they got a Mark Dantonio beat down KF special coming after last year and this offseason in particular.

Agree completely, if Kirk doesn't throw out all the stops and to especially shut down Charlie then I'll be extremely disappointed.

When the offense literally grasps defeat from the jaws of victory on a weekly basis it MIGHT be time to think about definately getting a committee together to anticipate if a change is needed........maybe
