First i have to give the guy a ton of credit for staying in the pocket and making so many great throws knowing he was about to get drilled. Absolutely amazing he could last the entire game playing like that.

Second, he is apparently the third string qb for Rutgers. Is he a transfer with experience or has played a lot of snaps in prior seasons? Our D looked pretty good but it's also concerning somewhat that a third string qb could be so effective...

Not a transfer. Sophomore- Vedral started and played most games last year. Out with an injury. Wimsatt, redshirt fresh, RU prized an recruit also out with injury. Left high school early last year to enroll at RU. He, Simon and third guy all had limited time last year behind Vedral. Third guy, Simon, transferred out and is starting for Buffalo. Tight end Langdon also played an when he first transferred to RU, still in for wildcat formation.
Simon and Wimsatt split time in first 3 games, not sure who would have started if both healthy.

based on what you saw from simon yesterday, are qb1 and qb2 really better? or did you guys get better with simon?

Go to the RU board and you’ll probably see people who have dueling opinions. Vedral was probably going to be starter, fifth year senior. Was starter last year. Transfer from Nebraska. Adequate, but not super.
Wimsatt is bigger run threat than Simon. Simon perhaps better passer. Add Lagan into mix - originally went to Boston College wanting to qb. Transferred to RU and did get a shot at the position but got shifted to tight end. Usually when he is at qb. It’s a run - but he did throw a td pass this year against Wagner.

That kid stood in there tough last night and delivered a few passes even though he knew he was going to take some big hits. Big credit to him because he was certainly not a big physically well put together athlete who could take a consistent pounding like that.

Dude should have been awarded the purple heart after this game. He got off the floor more times than Rocky.
Plus when he ran he actually looked like a fb player. Taking hits and getting the extra yards.
Spencer is not that guy.
What is Spencer, 6'5" 230? Plays like a pansy.
Put Spencer fing Lee in, guarantee you he wouldn't be sliding. Lol

Whats more concerning is their third string guy is clearly better than Iowas 3rd year starter.

Sometimes offenses get hard to defend when they go into hurry up/desperate mode. I think we saw some of that last night.

Haha, at 5'3 125 Spencer Lee would look pretty funny out there. He wouldn't be able to see over the line and would get destroyed. Size matters in fball and wrestling, it's why they have weight classes

It was joke. Come on man.
What was not a joke about the post is it's not the size of the man, but the size of the fight in the man.
That was my point.

Simon wasn’t perfect but he got better as the game continued. And if continued to be given more reps instead of Vedral, he may get better. But he will continue to reemed because he’s not the chosen one, esp when people on the Rutgers game thread were actually blaming him for the scoop and score. He and Wimsat should’ve been given more snaps last season. But let’s hope both get the majority of the snaps moving forward… and get a QB from the 23 class and beyond.

Simon averaged 6.1 ypa and threw two INT. That is "concerning"?

Petras averaged 8.7ypa and threw zero INT.

You guys are delusional.

This post sounds like it came straight off of HR referring to the Iowa QB situation.

Simon played against a top defense in the country

Petras played against an average defense

Maybe offenses should do it more often. Or more importantly, maybe IOWA should ponder that for a minute. I have consistently suggested one small tweak for Iowa's attempt at offense would be to get into an aggressive rhythm by going no huddle. But that's WAY too sexy for KF, which is why Iowa hasn't done it since Vandenberg went no huddle and led the greatest Iowa fourth-quarter comeback win in history against Pitt several seasons ago.
