Ryan Kriener senior highlights

Oh really? A center that can catch a pass and not just dunk but dunk while getting fouled? Serious?
Appears that he fully intends to dunk every time he has the ball in the post. I effin LUV it!!!

Thanks, lots to like there. Not an explosive jumper, but he dunks easily and frequently. Good passing, goo ball handling. Appears to have a nice looking midrange shot.

I really like this kid. Eventually, he is going to be a great player for Iowa. I think he is better than Woody at the same stage, and is quick and mobile enough to play center at Iowa. 6-9 and maybe he can grow to 6-10.

I think he looks pretty raw and is gonna need some work. I hope people temper early expectations of him. There isn't much in those videos to see his footwork or how he operates around the basket while guarded. It's all dunks. I like his size obviously. Can't coach that. But I'd really like to see his footwork and what his offensive game outside of dunks looks like before I get real excited about what he can do early in his career. Needless to say, athletically he's a long ways behind kids like Wagner and Cook.

I wouldn't say "a long ways behind." Did you actually watch the videos? I don't recall any videos showing Cook's footwork, either.

I have seen play for two years and he has improved his mid range jump shot and free throw shooting a lot. he just needs one step to dunk and in last part of this year he has finished better around the basket. By the way Zach Dykstra is number 25 in these videos and Iowa is recruiting him for football. 6'5 and 283# during football season

Kid has shot 70% for his high school career. He constantly has 2 or 3 guys hanging on him. Has really expanded his mid range and 3 point shooting this year. Good freethrow shooter. Best footwork I've seen in quite sometime from a young big man. He and Connor McCaffrey are the same age.

My expectations are 10 to 20 minutes a game, solid post defense and presence and about 4 or 5 rebounds a game. Should I temper that?

I think it is significantly more likely that he will become a whipping boy his first couple of years.

You can read comments on front page threads today which conclude that Andrew Fleming is a bust even though he has played very few minutes as a true freshman.

Dominated small school Iowa.

Leap to big ten is going to huge but I think he will be a very nice interior player. My bet is the best of Fran's tenure before he leaves.

I like Round Rocks post and 37 above...like Rock said, you can see the talent and good to hear the onsite views from 37. He looks a lot bigger to me, long arms and hex's comment about Ryan's hands vs Woody's per the vid seems legit to me. I liked his footwork too and the way he used his body on the block, big target, good hands and asking for the ball down low. Ryan can step out to the 3 with a pretty good shot that is going to get better and has a nice looking 10 foot mid range shot, dribble drive, pretty good handles and is a good assist big man too. Biggest plus....great foundation of skills for a big man, huge upside.

I noticed this too. That's very coachable though.

No one gets offered a ride based play in iowa high schools. His AAU play was great.

I like his court vision, ability to pass, find the open teammate. And he dunks with regularity.
With our lack of Bigs, I cannot see him red shirting. Might as well get him going.........he's gonna take some time to develop, however yeah I think Hawkeye fans are going to be pleased
