RYAN MORNINGSTAR interview

I like hearing Stoll is ready to go. Todd would it have killed you to ask about 141?! JK! Great interview. Love hearing about the program from the horses mouth.

I guess I'm more familiar with knee injuries in terms of NFL players and fantasy football, but it seems way to early for Stoll to be getting back on the mat at the beginning of the season. He had an ACL tear and MCL sprain, mid March right? I believe it was operated on shortly after Big Tens. It's good that he's confident and champing at the bit, but that seems risky to me.

Look at Jamaal Charles in the NFL, he tore his ACL in October 2015 and still isn't seeing playing time. If a smallish NFL running back needs almost a full 12 months to rehab, I can't imagine a big dude like Sam would be able to go that much sooner. Add the weird ways knees can get torked in wrestling and I'm nervous.

It's possible the injury is less severe than I thought it was, but for my money, keep him out until it really matters. I'd be happy to see him work and rehab until 2017 and then begin wrestling into form with Big Ten and NCAA tournament peak in sight. I guess we'll have to defer to Tom's judgment on this, but the last thing we need is a re-injury due to rushing back too soon.

Everybody and every injury is different. An NFL RB will need a lot more knee stability making cuts than Stoll will pushing straight forward. Also, Adrian Peterson was back in 8 months with great success. And Charles didn't need as much time the first time he tore an ACL.

What I'm trying to say is it's really tough to compare knee injuries.

Fair point, I guess ultimately my point is there is almost nothing to gain and everything to lose by rushing him out there.

I tore my ACL/MCL in football, 2nd game of the season in HS my Jr year. I was on the mat in 5-6 months with a very large brace but was not cleared by the Dr. and honestly not ready at all. By 9 months, hell my other knee was worse off. Now 40, tore my ACL in my other knee a few years back (in a very manly way on a trampoline with my kids) and it was night and day difference from 20 years ago. I was jogging and riding bike (very cautiously) in 2-3 months. Some Dr. on here could tell us better but there is some point that they tell you the ligament is as strong as it will ever be so it isn't going to tear just because it is a replacement. I don't remember what that date was because I wasn't going to be wrestling, playing football or getting on a damn trampoline anyway :) However, the tweaking part (like a turk) would probably still hurt like hell but it wouldn't tear again under that scenario. I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Allow me to summarize: Team is great. Gilman and Clark are great. Marinelli is great (except that he is between 157-165). Stoll is great. Holloway and Wilke are great (except that Holloway is beyween 197-Hwt and Wilcke is between 184-197). Kemerer is great (except that he is between 149-157). Everyone else is great.

So, we have two (potential) all-star 57 lb'ers….

What happens if Da Bull is good enough to take it to KemDawg @ 157?

What happens if they are both undersized for the weights they wrestle in order for both to see the line up?

My take as well. Other than a bit on Stoll and a couple of weights, he didn't really say anything. He has gotten much better at coach speak.

They probably aren't consulting with a doctor at all.
What Jamaal Charles uses his knees for and what Sam Stoll uses his for are different.

There are examples of athletes coming back far sooner than Charles. Take AP, for instance.

Kemerer certifying at 149, Marinelli certifying at 157, Wilcke Certifying at 184, and Holloway certifying at 197. They are all ready to compete at their certification weight or the weight above. Not sure how I feel about that, but it is what it is! Maybe not cutting as much weight will be good for the freshman and give them an edge on day 2 or 3 of NCAAs.

Really glad to hear Stoll is conditioning again and running hills. I take that as a sign of great progress in his rehab. It's been 6 months since surgery. It sounds like they are being cautious with him and want to do the rehab right. The last thing the coaches want is for Stoll to reinjure himself and sink our title chances in one fell swoop.

Really glad to hear that Wilke has bulked up and will have a hard cut to 184 - may be descent sized for 197. I think he is more mat ready than Holloway to take the reins at that weight. Hopefully he is big enough to handle the other 197ers.

Interested to see how they square off. It does beg the question of who will start next year at 184.

Steven is strong he can really lean in on heavies. Tire them out. Let's see how he does. His footwork was the thing most worried about before. Wilcke has better footwork imo. So yeah kinda 197 and Heavy are throw the guy a bone weight. These dogs are hungry and Sammy will be Back 4 Midlands. That whole Marinella taking it to MK was based on "10 hard takedowns."
Practice is practice....

Is it possible that Sorensen has grown?
Kem 149 (huge)
Sorensen 157 (not huge)
Bull 165 (not huge)
No- 0%

No- Less than 0%

Yes but I just don't see it unless he wins midlands by beating IMAR. After watching some of the Saturday practices I am amazed at how he can handle himself against the bigger guys. It would be great if he walked around 10 pounds heavier.

Wilke will be a small 97.

Warner will take over 97 when Holloway moves to HWT.
