Read on Wisconsin forum that Taylor needs hip replacement and will not be competing his SR season. Shame to see him go out like that, he was very talented when healthy.

That's a shame to see. Talented kid. Who is expected to step in? Do either of Johnny Jimenez or Michael Cullen bump up?

He was a lot of fun to watch. His post match antics were pretty bad but it's a shame to see him miss his last year.

that sucks, beating the heck out of our bodies is part of the game, still sucks.

Agree. Was not a fan at all after his showboating sprint around the Kohl Center, gesturing at Iowa fans the whole way, when he beat Cory at Big Tens. Was nice to see Cory get a little payback last year, though, and I agree he was fun to watch. After a rough start, he pretty much won me over, and I really enjoyed watching him. Rarely a dull match when he stepped on the mat.

I'm from Iowa, but currently coaching in Wisconsin. I had Ryan T. up to do a camp for us last year. He was telling us about the Big 10 tourney and how when he was getting ready for his match with Clark that some Iowa fans threw something at him and were giving him a hard time. They had some 'back and forth' and were hassling each other. After he won, he circled by that group of fans to 'get the last laugh'.

He thought it was pretty funny and had nothing bad to say about the Iowa fans - he said it was all in good fun. I believe that he and Clark are good friends. He is a super tough kid, exciting wrestler, and very fun to talk to. It's very unfortunate that he will not be able to wrestle his senior year.

You joined today to post this garbage? Fans didn't throw anything at him you putz. He flipped off half the crowd in the arena. While you are lying you should post an excuse for what he did at nationals that same year.
Somebody might bring up how he wouldn't shake the guys hand. He than proceeded to run across another mat that had a match in progress. Barry was chasing him down the whole time and reamed him a new hole. I suppose that was all in fun also.

Easy tiger. I didn't say he was perfect. Just a tough nosed wrestler that could take things in stride, compete like a warrior and still have a little fun. I'm a Hawk fan too. My point wasn't to disparage Iowa fans. I thought it was funny that both the fans and the wrestler could have some fun together despite the intensity of the competition. It looks like you could use a little bit of that yourself.

No you posted a lie that came from him. I had great seats that day and saw his actions first hand. I also saw his tantrum at nationals. I left that stuff out when I initially posted about how I hated to see this. I like him and think he is fun to watch. I won't however sit back and let someone make up lies against the fan base. There wasn't a fun back and forth between him and the fan base at big 10's. And no Iowa fan threw stuff at him. I don't blame him for making up a story to justify his actions though. I wonder why he flipped off a few thousand fans instead of going up to the one section?

C'mon champion. You have no idea whether that story is true or not. You weren't focused on Taylor the whole time he was getting ready. I have no idea whether the story is true or not, but how can you so confidently say it's not?

Have you ever been to big 10's? Do you really think fans threw stuff at him? The kid was just trying to save face for being an idiot. He didn't make his gesture towards any group of people either. He did it while running in front of half the arena. He is lying. Listen, I like Taylor and really enjoyed watching him wrestle. He let the heat of the moment get the best of him a couple of times. No big deal but at least own it.

Yes I have been to Big 10s. Every arena is different. It wouldn't be hard at all for some fan in the front row to toss a water bottle at a wrestler in a tunnel or on the floor. I've seen plenty of drunk wrestling fans act in an inappropriate way, so it really wouldn't shock me much.

You should get front row seats some time instead of sitting with the hoodlums in the nosebleeds.

I was there and not close to the action. Did the rest of you notice Gilman stop Taylor and have a word for him as he entered the tunnel. No clue what he said but Taylor didn't pause and may have picked up the pace to move along. Would be interested how that would have played out on a bridge in Waterloo. I just get a chuckle how Gilman wasn't gonna take any crap. Like I said, I wasn't close at all, so maybe it's funnier in my head than the reality.

Gilman was pissed at Taylors actions and we got a chuckle out of it.
Ok big dog. I'll stick to what I know as just your typical peasant that can't get front row of such prestigious events as Big 10 wrestling championships.
Would it be ok if I start a gofund me in your name to get you a pair of binoculars?

Yep -- this happened right in front of us. Thomas wasn't the least bit amused with Taylor's behavior, to say the least. He made that pretty clear to Taylor. It was nice seeing Thomas sticking up for his guy -- especially considering that it was the guy who'd taken his spot in the lineup.

Water under the bridge, and I think it's safe to say Hawk fans generally enjoyed watching Taylor wrestle and wish he could compete next season. That said, I do find the story about Iowa fans throwing things at him pretty far-fetched. Probably exaggerated, at the very least. In any case, there's really no justifying his display after the match, which was some very poor sportsmanship. Probably best for Ryan to either not bring it up in conversation or simply own that he acted like a clown in the heat of the moment. He wasn't the first to get out of line with the adrenaline pumping and won't be the last, but to try and justify it is pretty weak.

At the end of the day, I wish Ryan well. Heck of a tough wrestler and fun to watch. Like most wrestlers, I suspect he'll do very well in future pursuits.

He pretty much lost any credibility to his first story after his actions at NCAA's. He lost his mind and/or his temper, and did it twice. That's on him.

That said, bummer for him with his injury. Wish him well for whatever life brings him.

I'm guessing part of Taylor's reaction had to do with getting stuck in the dual. Was there for that as well.

Are you sure he needs hip replacement surgery? That seems pretty drastic. They don't do that unless almost all other options are exhausted. I can't see this happening here.

He has had multiple hip surgeries and this is the first one where he has said it is career ending. The specific surgery hasn't been issued in any articles, but hip replacement makes sense considering what has already been done.

Joint resurfacing or an osteotomy would be more likely in a younger patient, though obviously I don't know what all he's had done.

Don't know anything specific about Ryan Taylor, but there are a number of things that could cause a significant hip problem in a young athlete. Aseptic necrosis can follow trauma and could require a hip replacement. That's what did in Bo Jackson, at the peak of his athletic career. A torn labrum of the hip could also occur. There are also underlying conditions that could be present from early life such as hip dysplasia.

Too bad it happened to him, he was exciting to watch.
