The country icon — whose smoking habit was rivaled only by Snoop Dogg‘s — told KSAT TV, “I have abused my lungs quite a bit in the past, so breathing is a little more difficult these days and I have to be careful.”

The 86-year-old added, “I don’t smoke anymore — take better care of myself.”

he was singing with kasey Musgraves on tv the other day...his lungs are shot and he couldn't breathe. he was gasping for breath and I thought he was about to pass out. he won't make it thru 2020 at that rate. it was tough to watch
