Said that I thought the 2018 team with Daniels and Jackson would be the most talented ever at Iowa.

I still believe it will be. I hope the young talent on the offensive side can hold together. I believe Iowa could have a total of 8 legit first round picks in 2019, 2020 n 2021.

I can tell u Iowa has not fielded that level of 1st rounders on the field at one time.

Most of those will be linemen but still pretty good.

I believe Jackson and Daniels would have made this the most talented team at Iowa in my lifetime.

Name the 8 first rounders. As we found out this year, being a first rounder is tough.

I think Wirfs, Jackson, Stanley, Hooker, Fant, Hockenson, Epenesa, and Anthony Nelson all have a chance to be first rounders someday IMO. I think its likely that at least 3 of those players get drafted in the first eventually.

All of those could return in '19. Fant won't but still '19 will be our best team.

I would say Fant for sure. Epenesa quite possibly.

The rest, not likely.

This ^. No one is saying we don’t have excellent players, it is just very hard to go first round. Shit, JJ and King didn’t even go first round.

Yeah, just like it's hard to get drafted in the NBA.

I still laugh thinking 30 years ago Jeff Moe was a 2nd Round pick. Shoot, ten years later JR Koch was too. Does that mean those guys were better than i.e. Peter Jok or Uthoff?

Times change. If I recall, before Robert Gallery, the last Hawkeye chosen in the Top 10 was a DB by the name of Tom Knight, back in the mid nineties. Lol. Was he greater than Desmond King or Josh Jackson?

A lot of outstanding players don't get picked in the 1st Round nowadays. A lot depends on the year, team needs, and how many other players are in the Draft at a given position.

I think the OP's estimation is a bit high. Obviously we've already had 2 guys go in the past draft during the 2nd round. I hope to see some stars emerge each year and get a few 1st rounders out of it, but my overall interest is how many total players we get drafted going forward. Have to continue to increase the talent level each year and see what happens. Who shows out this year as a future draft pick we didn't necessarily expect?

I don't think 8 will go in 1st round but at least 8 will be there or close
Agreed, I think most would agree that there at least 8 kids that have NFL first round "talent" but higly unlikely to be drafted in the first round.

I believe four QBs just went in the top 10 in the draft. If Stanley keeps improving he could be a first round pick.

Just the style of offense Iowa plays will keep Stanley from being a 1st rounder. Other than the tight ends, who is going to help showcase his skills. He has the physical qualities, but unless he has a Heisman winning year, I just don't see it.

Four QBs in the Top 10 is a rarity.

But yes it's possible Stanley could improve enough to be a 1st Round pick. He certainly has the size and arm strength. I think of the other players mentioned, though, the OTs have the best chance after Fant and Epenesa.

I actually think our offense will help Nate go earlier. He is actually Quarterbacking the team with reads not just looking at a sign/board. That being said if Nate goes 1st round we will be winning the b10 in '19.

If a guy has the size, the arm strength, the intellect and can make all the throws, an NFL team in need will take a hard look. Carson Wentz comes to mind. Josh Allen had pedestrian numbers.

Josh Allen had pedestrian numbers in '17 ... but that was also because he was surrounded by a bunch of newbies. When he had a little more talent to work with - his production was outstanding in '16.

If Stanley develops favorably ... if he puts up production in the ball-park of 3000+ yards with a ton of TDs ... he's going to be squarely on the radar of the NFL folks. If you have the frame he has, along with his arm strength, his football smarts ... and have production within a pro-friendly system. That ends up equating to a favorable draft position.

If Stanley can improve his completion % and have a similar TD/INT ration (26/6) last year, nfl teams would drool over those stats coming from a pro-style offense. That would mean in theory a shorter learning curve than quarterbacks coming from spread offenses. Style of play was a huge positive for josh Allen in this past years draft.
