I was noticing that after this season the Hawks are looking pretty thin in the depth department at 197 with Steven Holloway being really the only guy. Bowman is currently listed at 184, though I'm sure he could wrestle up assuming he doesn't beat Wilke for the 184 lb starting spot. I was wondering if anyone has an info on where 3A 195lb state champ Sam Cook from Ft. Dodge plans to attend college.

I have never understood why we have such incredible and deep depth at the lower weights but so thin at the upper weights... I can remember years past when we had 4 guys (at least) at 125 pounds but only 1 Heavy weight....

Many teams have the same issues. Penn State had to recruit a football player when Nevills went down

There are about 10x as many serious HS wrestlers at the lower weights than the heavyweights. So it seems inevitable.

I've been told he's visited Oklahoma, but he really wants to play football in college. He will wrestle if he doesn't get a football scholarship.

Star took a trip out east to hopefully fix this "problem". He went out to sign 1 of 3 kids to fill this void so to speak. Don't know if he got one of them but I am pretty sure 1 of them is here today...

And this is who?

Honestly don't know which one was here today. Worked security for the football game(damn traving softball fund raising)so no chance for me to get into the room today. Was hoping for Reenan but he's a little busy this weekend..

This kid is a stud. Absolute stud. I imagine he will get D2 football offers at minimum. I don't know his speed, but he would be a good small linebacker or a safety.

I would be very surprised if he ends up a Division 1 football scholarship athlete.

I'd be surprised as well. Just relaying the information I have heard about him.
It'll be football in college. Hell of a player but size is going to be a problem as far as high division 1. He's pretty short and don't think he could be big enough to play lb and not fast enough to play rb or safety.

I heard he has a full ride to Oklahoma but is holding out for football. I would imagine if he decides to go football it will be tough to compete with schools willing to throw that kind of money at him.

Dodgers are going to be tough this year and a top contender for the title.

I wish that was the case CP, alas my Dodgers got knocked out by the Murphy Mets!!! I was at game 2 BTW (clean, hard baseball slide by Utley!);)

OU is trying to tap into the FD program. Brody Teske also said he really likes the Sooners in his very early stages.

Iowa has crazy depth at the lightweights because Brands and Brands are the best lightweight coaches(Henson is close although he has to actually stay somewhere for a while to create depth) in the country. This is especially true at 125 and 133. They can take top notch recruits like McDonough and put them in the Finals multiple times. They can also take solid recruits like Dennis and Ramos and put them in the finals.

Results at 125 and 133 for Iowa under Brands:

06-07: 125: Falck 8th----133: Galanakis 2-2
07-08: 125: Falck 6th----133: Slaton 2nd
08-09: 125: Falck 3-2(got ROBLESED!)-133: Dennis 7th
09-10: 125: McD 1st-----133: Dennis 2nd
10-11: 125: McD 2nd(got ROBLESED!)-133: Ramos 3-2-R12
11-12: 125: McD 1st-----133: Ramos 3rd
12-13: 125: McD 2-2-R12(Injured Warrior)-133: Ramos 2nd
13-14: 125: Clark 5th----133: Ramos 1st
14-15: 125: Gilman 4th--133: Clark 2nd

So, in 9 season the Brands Bros have coached 125 to: 2-R12's, 7 AA finishes, 3 Finalists and 2 Champs. They also coached 133 to: 1-R16, 1-R12, 7 AA finishes, 5 finalists and 1 Champ.

The above doesn't even include Terry Brands work on the World/Olympic teams with Cejudo and, more recently, Ramos.

Needless to say, the results speak for themselves. If you want to have success as a lightweight it doesn't get any better than Iowa!

Iowa has had an AA at one of the first two weights for 35 of the past 38 years (since 1977), with 31 finalists and 14 champs. (The 3 years without an AA were consecutive: 04-05-06.)

Fort Dodge also had a freshman stuck behind Teske last year who will be in the lineup with Teske moving up. I believe he's Bennett's son, assistant coach at ICCC. He could be a finalist this year as well.

They'll have champs with Teske and Cook and medalists with T.Lara, C. Lara, Egli and newcomers Bennett and Lockner.

SE Polk lost quit a bit of talent with Marnin, Hellickson, Meyer, Shaw, Mikesell, Kerr and Dittmer.

As did Bettendorf with Stroker, Racer, Schwarm, Glynn, Sass and Woodard.

And SEP is in the same district as WDM Valley I think.
