Sam Harris on why Trump lies

There seems to be a thing where if you act like a doofus constantly somehow people manage to ignore it and focus on the negatives of the serious people.

Boring Johnson sort of did the same shit. Like the media used to beat up David Cameron because he went to elite private schools as a boy but didn't really give Johnson the same treatment even though he was in the same freaking class as Cameron and where photographed together multiple times.

I don't know I don't get it. We're living in idiocracy but with a much dumber president is the best I can do.
We saw it in ‘16 when he just kept saying crazy, stupid things almost hourly, and people just got numb to it, and we were told he didn’t really mean most of it.

I honestly believe a big party of why he won last fall is that people somehow forgot in 4 short years how insane his first presidency was…and that was with some competent people around him.

Trump is a dumbass and lacks intellectual curiosity. That’s why he can publicly muse about the efficacy of ingesting disinfectant, talk about Frederick Douglass in the present, opine about aviation during the Revolutionary War, drone on about the size of one man’s penis for ten minutes, brag about how much of an expert he is on novel viruses, or sound off about a long list of other things he clearly has no ****ing clue about.

All of that doesn’t mean Trump isn’t a master manipulator. He is. And he knows exactly how to con idiots and turn them into obsequious fools who will scream to high heaven that Trump has turned water into wine, shits bricks of gold, has every world leader bend the knee every time he posts on X, and has doubled the value of beachfront property in Des Moines, all before he has had time to play the back nine.

Yes, Trump is an idiot. But he is a clever idiot who knows how to manipulate a large swath of imbeciles. If that hasn’t become clear to you by now, I suggest you peruse contributions to this board from the following:

@Sullivan
@stanzithemanzi12
@RicoSuave102954
@NorthernHawkeye
@Whiskeydeltadeltatango
@Scruddy

And that’s a short list off the top of my head.

You drive a Hyundai.

Lololol Biden is going to go down as the worst president in modern history. Everything he did was a failure. Afghanistan, inflation, covid policy, pardonging his criminal family, etc.. all fails.
No, Biden will not go down as the worst president in American history. He’ll be a footnote, much like Warren Harding.

And the MIB’s narrative about inflation is a false one. After the Covid-caused inflation, it was cut in half Biden’s last two years. Biden is not Jimmy Carter, Scrud, regardless of how much you want that to be true.

Yes, presidential pardons are ridiculous. Good thing Trump is above reproach on such things. 🙄

Biden inherited a cpi of 1.4% and blew it up to over 9 points. Leaving office with over 2x cpi as when you came in isnt a win rags...

We can agree to disagree about Biden being a great President. I agree that he was adequate.

I also agree that he was not as corrupt as the current administration. I’m not sure why you direct this at me. Trump is a criminal and corrupt.

The liberals on this board have an extremely difficult time separating those of us who have some conservative political leanings with the MAGATs.
I'm just having a conversation...you quoted me originally. That's all. But I want you to think about what you just posted. You agreed that he wasn't as corrupt as the current administration. THERE WAS NO CORRUPTION. Again, google indictments by presidential administration and you can clearly see that this isn't a both sides thing. The Republican Party is and has been corrupt as hell for decades.

The funny thing is, I have some conservative political leanings but I also have logic and a helluva BS detector that has seen through a lot of lies for a long time, mostly coming from Republicans. I also get frustrated with Democrats that can't answer a simple question and throw out a lame political answer. Chuck Schumer is a perfect example of this, especially recently.

We're being lied to by all kinds of people from all angles for various reasons. I don't find any of them acceptable. "Equivalence" has nothing to do with it.

If one person, unprovoked, slaps another person we should be upset with them.

If one person, unprovoked, beats another person nearly to death, we should be quite a bit more upset with them.

You are so in love with the second attacker you insist upon trying to equate them with the first one. You look stupid and deplorable when you do that. Just so you know.

Life is still great for millions and millions of Americans. I’m sorry that you see it this way. I try to stay positive for my family and all those around me. I hate Trump, but I’ll go from 53 to 57 during his term. Life is too short.
So you aren't going to recognize that life is NOT great for millions of Americans too? Yeah, my life is pretty great other than having the knowledge that 900 billionaires are stopping millions of us from having things that they don't have to worry about. They don't have to worry about insurance companies denying a drug that their doctors say they should have. We do. Thousands of Americans have to pick and choose whether they can afford a med for themselves or their kids. If it weren't for billionaires fighting it, we could have a phenomenal healthcare system instead of one that nobody wants to trade for. That's just ONE thing billionaires keep from the rest of us.

That's awesome your life is so great but that's what makes me more liberal...I don't think anybody should have to go through the shit my fellow Americans go through to support their families. It used to not be this way. Thanks alot, Reagan.

Link to the policies Biden put in place that caused massive inflation and not COVID?

Biden is not Jimmy Carter.

Give it a rest, Scruddy.

Life was not great for millions of Americans in 2024, ‘23, ‘22 and so on. 38.6M Americans were in poverty in 2023. It’s a little disingenuous to act like everything has collapsed over the last 60 days.

I would love for our government to actually focus on those people for once. It’s not that I don’t care. I believe our elected representatives are the ones who do not care.

What party continually votes against the well being of those people you are talking about, historically? What party votes against anything that lowers costs for Americans? For veterans? Which party politicians fist bumped on the Senate floor after blocking benefits for vets? Trump and Republicans have ALL the power right now and that sociopath's wishes are being fulfilled while the rest of us have to watch it happen in real time.

It's the MAGA's, Shawn.

Asked and answered.

So, you don’t have a link.

I accept your surrender.
You didn't answer the question though.. you agreed that biden was a vegetable (I think) but never deciphered his comment for me. Do that and I'll drop some twitter receipts for you :)

It's a lot disingenuous to pretend what Trump is doing is no big deal. This isn't just about tanking the stock market and risking a worldwide recession from preposterous tariffs that all economic experts know are a bad idea. It's about firing federal workers willy-nilly with no plan and no actual evaluation of who should and should not still be here.

It's about defying court orders so he can treat people in a way that can be described in no way other than evil. And aggressively working to destroy people's trust and confidence in the very structure of our government.

It's about juvenile and repugnant gestures like renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Mt Denali for no purpose other than to please white nationalists.

And, yes, it's about surrounding himself with vile and incompetent sycophants with no expertise in their fields, leading him to make really stupid decisions about the economy that is absolutely risking the economy of the entire world. You cannot honestly claim you care about the poor while deflecting criticisms about a man who is hell bent on stomping the poor deeper into the ground while creating millions more.

This is weak. Even for you.

You made the assertion. I asked you to provide proof of your claim. You responded with an irrelevant clip that has nothing to do with backing up what you have asserted.

You might as well have asked me why Santa Claus wears a red suit.

You have nothing.

All I've asked is for you to decipher biden's 30 seconds of talking. If you want to say "he was too big of a vegetable to say anything coherent and I do not know" I will accept that as an answer. Otherwise you're dodging (and I still hope you'd fail a student for trying an answer like this, though government schools don't fail kids anymore from what I hear)

As I said, answer my question and I'll go dig up receipts I've already provided on this forum.

LMAO.

That’s not how it works.

Again, you made the claim. Can’t back it up. And now you’re flailing.

I’m a little insulted you think this tactic would actually work on me.

Great source rags. Really good stuff lmfao
He never said that. I need to see a link to the full quote.

I'm not flailing at all lol I offered to answer your question (with info I've already posted repeatedly) if you answered one question which you've so far refused. If a then b, rags. Give me a then I'll give you b (and the D, so to speak)

Biden was never a threat to democracy, and neither was Kamala. Trump is a threat to democracy. Americans have lost the ability to think things through and see the bigger picture.

End of story.

Trump just won in a landslide via democracy, what are you talking about lol

Where's the full video? This lacks context. This is a nothing burger. Even without context, nothing he said is egregious.

You are one dumb mother****er.
caring about the first 15 seconds and completely ignoring the rest

the essence of the trump supporter

caring more about a hypothetical regarding hunter biden than a documented fact about trump himself

"He didn't say that"

"Well he did say it, but context matters, and it's not even egregious. You suck!!"

Quite the shifting of goal posts even by this forums standards lmfaooo you got a couple extra minutes of context with the quote. Take your L.

No but FALSE EQUIVALENCE does...it's a massive issue. It's like saying both sides are corrupt. CNN is the same as Fox News. That would be bullcrap.

You just don't get it. DJT is just a guy doing a job, it's not like he's in the most powerful position in the world or that all of his words have sweeping consequences.

(Sarcasm alert!)

Wonder if most trump supporters are those that also want to believe that there is a hands on God watching over them all the time. To me that would explain trump's appeal-some people just need a powerful authority figure.

I do not disagree with you. I vote Harris. I’m not sure who you are trying to convince? But that doesn’t mean I’m a full convert to the Democrat party.

Do you think the majority of America approved of all of Biden’s decisions? There wasn’t much the Republicans could do to stop Biden’s immigration policies. So yes, it did suck to watch it happen real time.

It sucks when the candidate you voted for doesn’t win. It’s pretty obvious that you and I are handling that loss much differently.

Ok. Will it help if I come here every day for the next 1383 days and bitch about it in every thread multiple times a day?
