This has probably already been beat to death, but I'm bringing it up again. Maybe Blair can offer some insight.

I'm not much into recruiting rankings, but how in the sam hill can Rivals give the kid who has been named by pretty much everyone the best player in the state of Illinois only 2 stars? This is a prime example why I don't give the rating sites too much credibility.

I have seen that Iowa is talking about starting him off at RB, but I don't agree. I want to see him and Tracy in the slot. Why? Because both of them are really good runners in open field, so they will run jet sweeps and little counters and reverses better than ISM (who can't seem to make anyone miss and goes down easy). Plus, we need slots that can get yards after catch as most throws to the slots are of the short variety. Easley is doing a nice job getting open in the slot, but he almost no yds. after catch. I don't see Cooper as a slot receiver. I see him more in Meerkat mode. I think we'll be in good shape in 2 years if our depth chart looks something like this (with no emphasis on who is starting):
SE- Brandon Smith/Maxwell
WR- ISM/Lockett
Slot- Tracy/Evans
TE- Fant/Wieting or Beyer
TE- Hockenson/Cook
I think Stanley would enjoy throwing to that group his senior year!!!

Evans would just get buried in the depth chart at RB in my opinion because next year he'd be trying to get reps against all these cats:
Young (soph)
Akinribade (soph)
Kelly-Martin (soph)
Bryan (RSFr)
Joly (SR)
Geil (FR)
And as you can see only one of them (Joly) is leaving anytime soon. Unless, Akinibrade is leaving, then I could see them needing him there for depth next year. But if we get Stepp this year and Brock next year, I don't think he has a chance back there. I think they need to get guys like him and Tracy on the field and the ball in their hands at least a couple times a game.

Over the years I have been literally shocked by what keeps a kid from having a higher ranking. Publicity and bias are heavily at play. In the case of Evans though l, he plays at a big high school and you would've thought he would have gotten a little bit more PR than he does with that said I'm not sure anyone knows what his natural position is?

Don't be surprised if he is a three star by sometime next month.

He looks slow. No way is he a RB or WR. Tracy and Cooper will be the slot guys after Easley is gone. Why would he go up in the rankings if they just down graded him after the season was over ? Playing guys at WR with his athletic ability is the reason have had shitty passing games lately.

1) he played in a tiny school
2) you drop in ratings if you do not have a clear position. He isn't a college QB, he doesn't seem like a RB, he isn't a flat out WR. He does appear to be a good athlete but seems very much to be a "jack". FWIW the dude has a nose for the end zone and I could totally see him surprising the heck out of people.

Looks slow??? Lol, dumb.

Looks like a hell of an athlete to me!! Give me 10 more like him.

That 40 time isn't correct. He was laser timed at 4.65 at the opening regional event in Chicago last summer.
Tracy was timed at 4.63. Evans had a 4.2 shuttle time which ranked pretty highly and his overall score was in the top ten in the regional and 56th nationally.

I also think it is worth mentioning that Geil 40 time was a 4.80 with a 4.44 shuttle.

I don't have anything to do with the rankings.

The word we got was Rivals doesn't see a position for him basically.

Prairie Ridge is in Class 6A in Illinois, which goes up to 8A. Definitely not a tiny school.

It is an odd thing that just because a guy at rivals isn't sure what position he will play, he gets docked points. The kid dominated on the field but apparently that counts for nothing.

I see Blair already corrected you on this but honestly where in the world did you come up with him playing at a tiny school.... Prairie Ridge may have been the best football team in the state regardless of class. And 6A schools are somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 to 1900 kids.

They played multiple 6A, 7A and I believe even an 8A playoff teams on the way through their season.

We don't know that it isn't correct. Just because he ran 4.63 in Chicago doesn't mean he didn't run a faster time somewhere else. It doesn't say were or when that time was recorded. Maybe he had a bad day in Chicago.

He's the Hebrew Hammer part Deuce !!! 247 thinks he is the number 11 player in Illinois regardless of class or position. Only a two star for those with limited vision.

Who did Blair correct? I don't see a post about him playing at a tiny school, but I have some morons blocked. It was probably one of those heroes.

Where did you find the other number? 4.44 is extremely fast. I would bet a lot of money he has never run a 4.44

wasn’t-drunk-didn’t-troll. He admitted his mistake.

What a shock, LOL. The kid's a complete idiot. He loves to run his mouth off, but he's rarely right about anything, I mean ANYTHING. That's why I blocked him. Correcting all his BS was wasting too much of my time.

Appreciate it Birky but he won't acknowledge it. Apparently completely fabricating numbers for a recruit is acceptable but getting two lightly recruited kids from the state of Illinois mixed up is a bridge too far. The fact he isn't smart enough to hit "show ignored content" like I have too when he post is telling. Such is life, again I appreciate your effort

Hey muskie, remember that time you called someone an idiot and then got found to have referenced fabricated numbers? Yeahhh...

The 4.4 is most definitely hand timed. Usually a .2 or so delay with the hand timing. Don’t you think it’s strange that all these HS recruits supposedly run 4.4 forty’s, then by the time the Combine rolls around only a handful can do it? Does college make them slower?
I understand your assumption (there's some logic there), but it is not 'most definitely' hand timed. You can't form 'definitive' opinions without supporting evidence. You don't have that evidence. All we know is that Samson posted this time on his recruiting page. Until he tells us when and where this time came from, we don't 'most definitely' know anything.

Fact is we’ve grown up on the 4.4 40. That’s how we judge elite speed.

But truthfully, you watch two side by sides of a 4.4 and a 4.6 40 and there’s that much of a difference.

The better test for athletic explosion is the pro agility and the vert. If a guy can explode through a hole, cut back without losing too much momentum and then accelerate again to their top speed — well that’s the more elite player.

I like you, I have said this over and over and over....you are also dead on. The "agility" tests, all of them really, including vertical and broad jump are as indicative of explosives and athleticism as a forty yard dash. Also more comparable to short area quickness that is more important in football.

People think star ratings are a reflection of how good the kid is. It's an equation. It is potential×ability to play day 0. Sorry to reference other teams recruits but here is a glaring example. Bryson Williams the DT that is going to wiscy is a solid 3 star. RIGHT NOW he is a much better football player than the 2nd guy I will discuss. Bryson is a 3 star because he is basically ready to play day 1 his ceiling however is not much higher than what he is currently. Now you have masarai mapui (sorry I butchered his name) this guy looks like trash on the feild right now, but his footwork is outstanding for a big man he is just a pillow coming out of high school. He has a much higher upside than Bryson but is going to take time to develop. He is also a mid 3 star. What Iowa has done in the past well is get the most out of 2 and low 3 stars by the time they leave. What we are doing now is getting a higher ceiling guy (example aj who is incredibly "raw" but so talented that at Iowa he still saw the feild) or guys who can come in and play day 1 instead of needing 2 years of system. There is a reason we saw a bunch of freshman get on the feild and the facts are they were more ready for B10 football than the guys they passed.

I never said 40 times were that important, I was just responding to some yahoo that tried to say Samson was too slow for this and that, and that's simply not true.

I've watched Evans in person enough to know that his timed numbers might not jump out at you but he brings a lot of intangibles. He's a leader, he's a winner and he has really good football instincts. I truly think he will excel at whatever position he plays. And I have said this before, you can say the same thing about Jenkins, his teammate, but his position group is already determined.
