I watched for years, but tuned out in the late 90's. He's had incredible longevity, and a large impact on our late night behavior.
The MIL went to Ball State. She was dating the future FIL at the time, but as a favor to a sorority sister she agreed to go out on a date with the buddy of the sorority sister's boyfriend. Saturday night rolled around and the MIL was picked up from the sorority house by the young man, and in an hour she returned home flustered. The sorority sister asked her what happened. She said the young man was already tipsy when he'd picked her up, and got handsy as soon as they got to the restaurant. The MIL was a very Catholic lady from a small town in Indiana, and was shocked by his actions. She demanded to be taken home.
Several years later the MIL was in the house of her younger sister helping her out after the birth of her first child. As she sat in the living room watching TV folding laundry she thought the weatherman looked very familiar. Turns out it was the handsy date. His name, David Letterman.
If only the MIL had let the hands wander a little I might have had David Letterman for a FIL.
