Nice little catch and run on Saturday, bounced off the sorry attempt at a tackle by the Clone defender. I was still hoping to see him in on more snaps, IIRC he was only in about ~40-50% of the offensive plays?

I thought he was going to be catching slants and taking them to the house, outrunning DBs on deep balls, stuff like that. Appears as if he's still got a bit of developing to do. We're in dire need of more weapons on the outside.

Why is the expectation so high? I don't get it. His first meaningful snaps were on Saturday. He'll have better games and be good if he stays healthy. He's sharing time with Jerminic Smith, so expect to see him in on 40-50% of the snaps. He'll play a bigger role if Smith, Vandeberg or McCarron gets hurt. Enjoy the season. We have a good team and a very good QB.

So, game one you expected him to play a majority of the game, and to score multiple TDs?

He was listed as a starter in week one and had buzz about him from camp...maybe that's why the guy thought he'd play more. Just a guess.

I was joking about the touchdowns and things like that, but I was expecting to see him on the field more based on his climbing of the depth chart, general buzz coming from practice, spring games, etc. After seeing his one instance it looks like the future's bright for him.

Scheel sat out game one due to injury, and his replacement had what Kirk called a superb game. It would have been fairly shocking to see Scheel get a majority of the snaps this week.

Scheel looked at step slow or timid after the catch.

I also dont get the hype? I guess its because Iowa HS football does not produce a lot of D1 skill players?

Scheel needs to get more live snaps under his belt until he can get worked in more regularly. Furthermore, given that hamstring issues linger - it might slow him for a while. Jerminic Smith earned himself A LOT of respect with his blocking on the periphery. Quite frankly, Jerminic was given the opportunity because Scheel was injured ... Jerminic made the most of his opportunity. Now it's up to Scheel to earn back those reps.

McCarron has quietly been playing pretty well ... so right now we have a pretty solid top three in VandeBerg, McCarron, and Smith. As Iowa's O eventually sees more snaps ... we'll likely see more of Scheel and Nash (Nash has seemingly been making the most of his snaps too).

The hype was due to a 4-star skill position player from the state of Iowa, and many fans were familiar with him from his high school days.

I personally didn't think he looked slow. He just needs to play more.

If I was McCarron I'd be watching Wes Welker film. Also, he really needs to focus on protecting the ball being a small dude who had coughed it up before.

He might play more if he stops getting injured all the time. Gotta be available.

Kirk wants a guy he can trust. See LeShun Daniels. Stay healthy, play. Don't stay healthy, struggle for PT when healthy. You're always behind the Next Man In.

Not knocking the kid...but he's got to get on the practice field day in day out to get on the field Saturdays. We have seen that with LeShun as he's matured, and look at him now.

I
But, of course, Jay was coming off an injury that had sidelined him for the.opener. So expecting him.to.start was not realistic.

You mean "dropped a pass" :)
We got away with one there no doubt...I was actually thinking about the Nebraska game last year (I believe) where he fumbled a kick or punt return and we recovered it. Next play or two Canzeri took it to the house. Thank goodness we recovered it.

On Wadley's catch for a td...Scheel was open on a drag route. Probably wouldn't have scored but close. CJ, of course made the right decision.
