Scholten joins Franken campaign

JD worked in high tech before coming back to his home area and getting involved in Iowa politics.
He is one of a few democrats that does well on the stump in rural Iowa
This is a smart move by Franken.

Grassley’s reinterpretation of legal precedence in the SC matter (Garland) and his reinterpretation of the matter a few years later.
His explanation of what exactly a “death panel” is....Maybe ask him 3 or 4 times what his name is and what office is he running for....
I just talked to Chuck. He said he'd be happy to explain what a death panel is, as soon as he can find that elusive Dem that can explain what a Woman is.

Keep an eye on the 10 o'clock News, but you're going to be waiting awhile.

Do we think he will have a “schedule conflict” when Biden comes to Iowa to “help” the Democratic candidates??

I think it’s about 70% that Biden doesn’ t come to Iowa before the election to “help” Franken.
I have heard Franken a coupe of times...the guy might be the smartest Democrat since Hughes to run for state-wide office. Grassley has his hands full. There is no doubt as to who the best Senate candidate running in ‘22 is.
Not saying Grassley won’t win the Fall...but if he does it is because Iowans are dumber than I think. (But I learned many years ago to never overlook the stupidity of the Iowa voter when it comes to voting against their own self interests.)

I think you might need to prepare to be disappointed. What has changed since 2020 election for Iowans except Biden?
1. 1/6, this isn’t Trump so maybe affects some but not a difference maker
2. Roe vs Wade - in a state like iowa, maybe a little push left but not enough to decide things
3. Inflation, Gas Diesel Prices, Sinking economy. I can tell you who will get the blame, right or wrong.

#1 reflects on the judgement (or lack of) by the incumbent and his TWO “not guilty” votes on Trump’s impeachment.
#2 R vs. W....60% of Iowans favor the woman’s right to choose and their right to privacy. Franken supports R vs. W and he supports a woman’s right to choose vis the Constitution..which Grassley opposes..unless he decides to support it...
#3 what does Franken have to do with this?

3. Franken is a Democrat. People associate candidates with the state of the country. The Democrats are in control of all three elected bodies of the federal government with very little to show besides infighting and an extremely unpopular President. Hence the Democrats are practically begging Trump to announce his candidacy for President because they need something to rally around. Might be the only thing that could save the party at this point.

And your as as dumb as most Iowa Republicans....congratulations!
Would you tell me what the GOP accomplished when they controlled all 3 branches back in the day?
Senate rules being what they are (60 votes for most legislation to be adopted)..and the actual Party count of the Senate shows there are more Republicans in chamber than Democrats (50 Repubbers, 48 Dems and 2 Independents) you go spewing your “facts” while most of us realize that like most things said by Republicans...once examined they just are not so.

I can’t tell if you are trolling or just so misguided. Republicans don’t try and “accomplish” things with government. Id think most republicans just want the government out of their lives as much as possible. Labeling Sanders as an independent is laughable. But your point remains, why on earth would the Democrats and Biden promise the moon and stars to progressives with a 50/50 senate when the only thing they could pass would be by reconciliation? So we agree it’s horrible messaging from Biden.

Labeling Sanders a “Democrat” more ludicrous. Senators have to caucus or get appointed to committees. King and Sanders chose Dems and got assignments they desired. Dems won control of the Senate in ‘06...the year Sanders won his Senate seat. He negotiated w/ HReid and joined the Dem caucus in exchange for his Senate committee assignments.

Yes. Sanders isn’t a Democrat. He’s a socialist. Right about that one.
