For years, two administrators at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ) have been withholding notifications of National Merit awards from the school’s families, most of them Asian, thus denying students the right to use those awards to boost their college-admission prospects and earn scholarships

Sounds like some civil lawsuits are in order.

What the hell kind of policy is "equal outcome for every student, without exception"? If every student is going to get the same grade, no matter how much effort they put into their studies, why put any effort in at all?
“We want to recognize students for who they are as individuals, not focus on their achievements,”

Wtf
And that's the kind of crap you say when you're the principal at a school with short buses and coloring books, not at a school for Science and Technology. Achievements are what science and technology are all about.

The daughter applied to go there but ended up not going. She was really glad not to, as it's a crushing environment for the students. And that's without the principal intentionally screwing the kids over.

It's a great example of taking a top high school for super high achieving kids, and screwing up all the things that made it the best, in an effort to help other kids not feel bad. The top kids are hurt, and the rest of the kids aren't actually helped in any way.
