“Scientists have discovered a remarkable way to destroy cancer cells. A study published last year found stimulating aminocyanine molecules with near-infrared light caused them to vibrate in sync, enough to break apart the membranes of cancer cells.

"What needs to be highlighted is that we've discovered another explanation for how these molecules can work," said chemist Ciceron Ayala-Orozco from Rice University.

"This is the first time a molecular plasmon is utilized in this way to excite the whole molecule and to actually produce mechanical action used to achieve a particular goal – in this case, tearing apart cancer cells' membrane."

F cancer!

I do not know if this is as a result of President Biden's moonshot program to beat cancer but we need to keep funding this research.
Hope President Trump and the new Congress will get on board.

Should not be political.
Cancer does not discriminate.
Keep pushing.
Holy grail is out there.
I lost a beloved sister to glioblastoma 6 weeks ago.
Absolutely sucks.

Sorry for your loss. After 50 years, it’s obvious the ‘War on Cancer’ being officially waged in the US has been a complete failure. Just lost a very good friend (in his 30’s) to glioblastoma as well; father to four children.

The ‘cut, burn and poison’ approach doesn’t work. This doctor’s approach to treating it as a metabolic disease makes more sense.

First they have to figure out how to charge a million dollars per procedure. Then they have to dial it back some, so it doesn’t work too well, so the patient will need multiple procedures.

Thanks. Whatever approach works, I am all in!

Yep. In 100 years our kids’ kids’ kids will be hearing reports about possible “new” drugs or treatments or procedures that kill and cure cancer. Meanwhile, millions of people will continue to die from it after throwing millions of dollars at treatments after throwing millions of dollars at organizations who claim to be throwing millions of dollars at coming up with a cure.

Really though, I know things have come a long way over the years in the fight against cancer, but I also know some scum bags are getting rich off all of it. F them, and F cancer.

My DIL works for a large oncology practice with offices throughout Florida.
She’s the coordinator of palliative care/hospice services, and she has been consistent in saying that while cancer has not been “cured” the greatest advances have been in extending the lives of those living with the disease. I guess that adds some credence to the idea of the ongoing treatments and therapies?
I do know of some who are living 7-8 years with the disease and they have a decent quality of life.

I’d prefer we work on the war on dementia at this point

Of course. Big Pharma wants to keep people alive longer. Keep patients spending that money on cancer drugs. No chance in hell they ever get to a real “cure”.
The health care industry collapses in that scenario.

No.
Keep em on that string using chemo drugs, other treatments, that’s where the big money is.
Let’s assume some Pharma company discovered a sure-fire cancer cure for a cost of $50,000. They’d stand to make a ton of money.

But not as much as they’d make keeping a cancer patient alive for 5-6 years on a $60,000/yr chemo/radiation protocol.

🤷‍♂️

Pretty much this... They sunk a LOT of money into R&D for those pricey cancer meds, and the ROI isn't going to be there if they cure the disease...

According to the ‘experts’, the cost of bringing a new drug to market is $880 million (https://www.drugs.com/news/mean-cos...SDAY, July 2, 2024 --,28 in JAMA Network Open.)

Also, according to the ‘experts’, over 2,000,000 Americans are expected to be diagnosed with cancer this year (https://www.ons.org/publications-re...sing throughout,Cancer Facts and Figures 2024.)

If Big Pharma found a sure-fire cure for cancer and and wouldn’t dare think of charging less than $50,000/patient for something that cost them $440 I guess that tells us everything we need to know about them.
