I'm not trolling you all this time, this is for realz.

LINCOLN — Scott Frost will get a fifth year to lead Nebraska’s football team, school leaders announced Monday, despite four straight losing seasons to start his tenure and a 5-18 record in one-score games.
The decision comes two days after the Huskers’ 26-17 loss to No. 6 Ohio State, the fourth competitive loss to a top-10 team on a difficult schedule.
“In my four months at Nebraska, I have closely observed our football team, and had several productive discussions with Coach Frost," Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts wrote in a statement." Scott has laid out a clear plan and vision for the future of Nebraska Football and has agreed to a restructured contract. I am excited to continue to work together with Scott. We share a love of Nebraska and this football program and want nothing more than Nebraska Football to again compete for championships.

“We all recognize our record has not been what anyone wants it to be. I have been clear that I have been looking for incremental progress, and I have seen that in several key areas this season. Our team has continued to compete at a high level and the young men in our program have remained unified and shown great resiliency, which is an important reflection of the leadership of Coach Frost and his staff.”

According to his original contract, Frost made $5 million per year in base salary and would have had a buyout of about $20 million had he been fired based on the agreement and remaining years of his contract, which was signed through the 2026 season. The terms of Frost's restructured contract have not been released as of Monday afternoon.

NU, which has fired its past four coaches, has already paid about $25.8 million in buyouts since 2010.

"“I appreciate the confidence Trev Alberts has shown in me to continue to lead this program," Frost wrote in a statement. "I love this state, this football program and am honored and humbled for the opportunity to serve as the head coach at my alma mater. Our immediate focus is on the two games ahead against Wisconsin and Iowa, and the opportunity in front of us to build momentum heading into the offseason and 2022. I understand we have not won at a high enough level, but I am confident our football program will continue to take steps forward.”

McKewon: Huskers have many flaws but lots of fight. Which will decide Frost's fate?

Frost is 15-27 overall at Nebraska. There are two games left in 2021 — Wisconsin and Iowa — before Frost embarks on an offseason of recruiting and development. Nebraska opens next season against Northwestern in Ireland, and has a schedule that at least on paper appears to be friendlier.

NU plans to sign a small class of incoming freshmen, scour the transfer portal for immediate help and — perhaps most crucially — try to convince several juniors, who have never experienced a bowl game or winning record, to return for their fifth and in some cases sixth seasons.

It’s a lot on the plate for the Nebraska native who helped win a national title for the Huskers in 1997 and grew up all over the state as the son of high school coaches.

Frost returned with fanfare in 2018, fresh off an undefeated season at Central Florida. He was full of confidence that if Nebraska struggled to win in Year 1 — the Huskers finished 4-8 — the program would hit its stride Year 2. That didn’t happen either.

McKewon: Scott Frost bleeds for Nebraska, but it's only producing pain

COVID-19 hit before Year 3, which Nebraska spent trying to train its players all summer for a season that didn’t start until late October. The Huskers went 3-5 last season — declining to participate in a bowl — and reportedly tried to get out of a Sept. 18 game with Oklahoma last winter.
NU’s administrators sent former Athletic Director Bill Moos, who hired Frost, away with an almost $3 million early retirement package in late June. Alberts took the job in mid-July and, shortly thereafter, had to address and confirm reports that Frost and his staff were under investigation for improperly using a special teams analyst to coach during practice.

After a tumultuous offseason, Nebraska started with an ugly loss at Illinois. Frost turned off the music at practices after that.
From there, the team experienced a few highs — blowout wins over Northwestern and Buffalo — and competitive but gutting losses to four teams (Oklahoma, Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State) currently in the AP top 10. Alberts, who attends practice often and meets with Frost the Sunday after each game, said in late October that he was “proud” of the work by Frost and his staff.

As postseason hopes have changed, Nebraska football’s 'brotherhood' faces decisions

After NU’s loss to Ohio State on Saturday, Frost said he bleeds for the program, and sees a turnaround coming soon.
“I’m disappointed,” Frost said. “I hate losing more than anybody in that locker room. But man, I love being the coach here. I love these kids. They’ve battled through a lot. This is going to pop here at Nebraska. It just is. We’re doing too many things right, we’ve got too many good young players.

"We’re putting ourselves in position to win too many games and just not making a play or catching a break.”

Well I guess the crypt keeper Osborne has spoken and told alberts to give him a 5th year. if he wasn’t an alum no way he comes back after 4 straight losing seasons. Seriously what other school brings back a coach for a 5th year who is under .500 previous 4. Maybe Kansas? I don’t even think Iowa st or Rutgers would do that anymore.

I’m sure the rest of the big 10 isn’t sad to see this. Plus no more of Riley’s guys will be left next year so will have to throw his own guys under the bus.

Frost certainly seems like a complete and all-encompassing tool, but his team is giving everyone else fits this year. I expect the streak to end in three weeks, but good golly, I hope I'm wrong.

9-4 is Little Debbie's ceiling and Frosty, the Savior, can't even come close to that.

Frank Solich (Pelini coached the bowl game?) went 10-3 in 2003. That team was ranked as high as #10 in the country.

One of my favorite stats. It would interesting to see. Since 16’ when they last went to a bowl who are the other schools since then who haven’t gone to a bowl game along with Nebraska the last 5 years. Unless you are one of the few 6th year seniors not one player on the roster, minus maybe some transfers, have experienced a bowl game.

After NU’s loss to Ohio State on Saturday, Frost said he bleeds for the program, and sees a turnaround coming soon.

I've never heard anyone in my life say they "bleed" for anything. I can't imagine Ferentz ever using that term or something like, I bleed for the Hawkeyes.

1. Buyout is prohibitive.
2. Lot of higher profile positions are open like USC and LSU.
3. Team has been in most every game.

I wonder if this announcement will cause the Huskers to absolutely tank the rest of the season or maybe it will spark them to close the season with some wins because the pressure is released a bit.

The restructuring sure seems to set up "fire after year 5 but greatly reduce the buyout clause."
Just what I was thinking. "We'll give you one more year, but you're out of excuses. With all the self-created baggage you'd be wise to take the deal...we could fire you now with a morals clause if we wanted to"

If you're not 8-4 next year, you're done. We're giving you a chance for a little softer landing.

Funny how the article says Frost "hopes" to convince members of the "junior" class to return for their "5th, and sometimes 6th" seasons.

Nebraska is the only school in the country to demote their entire roster by one class year. This is Martinez' 4th year as the starter. He is listed as a junior. By keeping these guys around for so long, he's basically given up on his underclassmen and throwing away an entire incoming class. Shows you both how desperate he is, and what a disaster Nebraska football will be after next year.

Husker fans want some of their assistant coaches/coordinators fired. I'm guessing part of the deal and SF "vision" for the program would involve some changes. I question the sanity (and quality) of any coach who is signing up for that one and done gig. Maybe somebody that is looking to rebuild their resume and can go year to year.

My God, that is so beautiful.

Man, there's a very realistic chance they bring back a 3-9 coach in his 4th year. Probably shouldve pumped the brakes on the extension
I think this is great! Maybe Nebraska is finally accepting their new normal. No more comments about the depths to which they have fallen. They still haven't hit bottom yet!

Frost is so ridiculous. Seriously. I'm not sure how you can justify firing Mike Riley, who won 19 games including a bowl game in three years...and Frost will win 15 games in four years. Frost will be 3-9 or 4-8 this year. There is no doubt in my mind that they are better...on both sides of the ball than they have been in the past three years. But they don't win football games...period.

I watched Frost's press conference and he NOW talks about not calling out his players...then in the next sentence, the reporter asks about their special teams and Frost replies..."The problem isn't special teams, it's specialists." Isn't that calling out a player? You recruited them...you chose to do nothing the first five weeks other than watch them struggle...and now you call out the players you put there.

LOL......Nebraska has essentially just given up. All of their best players on defense are gone after the year (Domann, Stille, Britt, and the two safeties) along with their best player on offense (Toure) and they're bringing back a coach whose best win in 4 years was over an unranked 7-6 Michigan State team 2 years ago.

On top of that their recruiting is the worst it's ever been AND they may actually be entertaining the thought of bringing back Adrian Martinez for a 5th year of losing QB play.

Thank you Trev Alberts!!!!!

Nebraska HC Coach Scott Frost announced Monday that the Huskers have parted ways with 4 assistant coaches effective immediately.

Offensive Coordinator/wide receivers coach Matt Lubick Offensive line coach/run game Coordinator Greg Austin, RB Coach Ryan Held and QB Coach Mario Verduzco are no longer with the program.

I think they leveraged Frost’s pride against his bank account. Telling him, you can get fired now and have your whole buyout, or we will give you one more year to get to a bowl game and keep your job going forward, but if you’re fired after next year the buyout is greatly reduced.

Could be wrong, but that’s what this smells like.

I see Frost bringing back a bunch of guys with the covid waiver. Hits the portal for a few key spots and has a "respectable" season next year. However future success will be difficult and he'll be back to his sub-500 self in 2023.

Just heard he canned 4 of his coaches. Some other stats I saw on Reddit:

Looks like 4 coaches on offensive side of the ball just got canned including the OC. Frost now throwing his assistants under the bus just like he does with his players.

Sounds like he threw his assistants under the rug to save his own ass. NU just can't admit they made a mistake. I'll give him 2-3 more years and then the coaching carousel will continue.

I’m puzzled that frost agreed to any sort of restructuring. no way they fire sf with 20M to lose particularly when it does appear that he has them close(r). sf should’ve told the ad to pound sand and kept either the advantageous contract or pocketed 20M. sf needs to get rid of his agent first.

sf has to be really dumb to fall for that. and his agent has to be pissed.
