Looking back, I have no problem admitting I enjoyed most of Season 1 (2016-2020) of the Trump Show. The whole supervillain background story and build up with the election upset was riveting and a great plot twist. Many of the following initial episodes into his presidency were light hearted and actually funny. The injection of humor was the key, and reminded me of one of your best Marvel Universe movies that could straddle the line between serious and hilarious. Thought the writers made a mistake in the 2020s though. The Covid stuff was dark and disturbing, as was the scene of the lock down on DC where he comes out of the whitehouse glowering with his Bible (credit though how they worked it in him holding it upside down).

Season 2 (2021-2024) just sucked. The January 6th episode got things going with a literal bang to Ashli Babbit’s head and got everyone back into watching, but things quickly fell apart with a hard to believe plot line where Joe Biden and the Democrats refuse to have an AG aggressively pursue charging Trump with inciting an attempted overthrow of the election and Republicans are also unable to use the event to rid themselves of their albatross. The whole antivax thing was annoying and stupid, especially with Trump admin starting the aggressive vaccination program and deserving credit for having them available by Spring of 2021. But, overall all it got stale and boring with the sheer amount of awfulness uncovered about Trump somehow never damaging him. And as the audience had to suspend belief, the season ending with Trumps’s easy win of the election was not at all a shock as it had been telegraphed in and was obvious. The attempted assassination episode was by far the most poorly written and acted one of the entire series.

However, with the new writers recently added in from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Season 3 (2025-2028) is off to a killer start and finally has that humor back, so missing from Season 2. I mean so much happened in one day:

Elon Musk high on ketamine throwing out Nazi Salutes? We got it.

Playing with swords and dancing around like a little kid? We got it.

Rambling aggrieved speeches and follow up session with people surrounding him awkwardly watching the spectacle. We got it.

Carrie Underwood embarrassed and having a meltdown. We got it.

69 Asinine Executive Orders freeing deplorables, targeting Hispanics, helping out Big Pharma, naming the Gulf of America, and gutting the job producing renewable energy sector. We got it.

Personal enrichment as the new President immediately makes billions selling crypto on his name and becoming a silent investor in Tik Tok. We got it.

Billionaires carousing at the backdrop of his inauguration, with one ogling the rack on another’s plastic wife. We got it.

Very solid debut.

Don’t forget freezing aid to Israel and Ukraine.

I just saw this for the first time. Good stuff.

How about a review of the recent episodes?

I just saw this for the first time. Good stuff.

How about a review of the recent episodes?

The February episode was solid and full of clownery. I mean we had Musk prancing around with gold chainsaws and Trump accidentally outing himself as a Russian asset by going too obvious on supporting Putin in Ukraine war.

However, March and April have not been as enjoyable.

Now, I love dark comedies, but the breadth and deepness of the incompetence is getting a little bit too depressing at times. As is the shameless grifting with no consequences.

I also would add that I feel the writers may be dabbling with jumping the shark territory because no way this stuff would happen in real life. I love satire, but it has to be believable and not over the top.

For example, the plot line with the buffoon alcoholic Secretary of Defense drinking whiskey at press conferences and later getting busted bro texting about impending attack on an unsecure mobile chat app was a bit ludicrous. And then not being fired over it? Come on.

As was the scene where Trump and his beta VP berated the president of Ukraine while the Secretary of State did his best Jason Bateman in Arrested Development impression as he passively watched the chitshow and then stared at his legs, in resigned resignation. Yes, hilarious, but also it was just not believable because no way an event in Oval Office like that would happen. I mean, what is next for May, they going to bring the South African President in and berate him for genocide against white people based on a debunked internet fringe conspiracy?

I am cautiously optimistic about the future episodes though because you just know the economy is getting ready to pop in a bad way. Should be some hilarious spinning and FAFO by the MAGA characters, who are my favorite (except for that one guy who lives in a trailer in Nebraska and beats his wife, he is annoying as ****)

It’s still very funny.

Sweeps Week will be epic. Donnie is building up to something. Some surprise tariffs, and twists. Maybe an affair and a will she won’t she leave me scandal with Melanie.
