Sen. Johnson suggests ending Medicare, Social Security as mandatory spending programs

Let me have the 12.4% rather than the social security system. I will have much higher retirement income investing this money on my own.
Notif you invest it in guaranteed safe Treasury bonds, buddy boy. This is not “ casino” money but GUARANTEED money.
I never ever paid much more than 3-4% of my wages to SS...unless you are a self employed person or some such thing, you can’t pay that much in, either. I concentrated maximizing my contributions to my 401 and 403s...

Well, buddy boy, you may not know this, but if my employer gives me the 6.2% they are required to put into the social security system, and I get to keep my 6.2% that I am required to put in to the social security system, then we get 12.4%.

If I got to keep every penny that went into the social security system based on my wage base, then I would have more retirement income than I do with social security. Why would I invest my money into treasury bonds?

Because SS is a retirement /pension system for all Americans...not just you. Part of the “ one for all, and all for one” that made America truly unique and successful.

It sure doesn't feel like one for all and one for all, but point taken.

That is why America “is headed in the wrong direction”....40 years of lies, bullshit and “me first” has taken its toll. Republicans HATE Social Security and MediCare....and they always have...They will not rest until these programs are ended. Ever since the days of FDR, Republicans have told Americathat “they” can provide for America ether and less expensively and with more benefits that the Dems and SS can...But they have been lying to America for 90 years now.

Conservatives do not hate helping those in need. We just don't see it as the role of government to provide social security or healthcare. If Social Security and Medicare were a good system, then why do I hear so much about these programs being in trouble?

Because of population inbalances. Social Security and Medicare are the exact things government should be doing. Helping the people of the country that contributed and helped us all get by and now need a little help from all of us. This is a society.

This is a socialist view. I am all for helping others with my own money. I am not in favor of the government taking money to give to others. I am not anti-taxes. I am anti taxpayer funded social programs. Helping others should be a charitable act, not taxpayer funded social programs.

Again, if these were such great programs, then why are they underfunded? What went wrong with them?

Medicare was privatized in Iowa. That hasn't worked well.

I thought Medicare was a federal program. Isn't it medicaid that is governed at the state level? I don't believe medicaid is privatized though. I could be wrong. Open to insight and education.

Crap. You are correct, Medicaid. I think all the providers ended up leaving the state.

Underfinanced...Repubbers hate social programs of any sort that by-pass the private sector. The fact is that “the private sector” just can’t provide for everyone. Government, non-profit can do a better job. And, at a fraction of the cost.

Personal responsibility is the solution. If taxpayer funded social programs are the solution, then why haven't they worked?

No. Having tax payer funded social programs is not socialist. You’re just a pussy.

Simple, IOUs FROM THE SS FUND came from congress to pay for unfunded wars, NEVER PAID and the cap was raised the last time by Reagan who stated it should be raised periodically as needed, again NEVER DONE.

I agree that Social Program funds are used to pay for spending that was never intended. I agree that the age required to collect Social Security benefits should be raised. I disagree that the social security program was a good idea. Social programs do not work as evidenced by the very fact that they are underfunded and the percentage of our gdp and revenue required to maintain these programs continues to increase.

Is name calling necessary? Social programs are by definition socialism. You just demonstrated your ignorance.
No socialism is an entire government. Democratic-socialist policies are not socialism. You’ve demonstrated that you are a dumbass.

You can move to some anti social program country like Pakistan. You’d probably like it there.

Largely politics, through most of my lifetime Republicans have fought against SS and tried to starve it to death for the benefit of the richest amongst us.

And save your ideas on private charity to fill that gap. It will never happen and it will always be a day late and many dollars short.

Point taken. I will stay in the United States. You can move to Europe. Socialism has worked so well for them. You will love it.

Yes, taxpayer funded social program is a Democratic-socialist policy.

I am pro-democracy as well. You vote for people who support socialist policies and i will vote for people who believe in empowering people to be self-supporting and productive members of society. In the meantime, I will keep paying more in taxes while you stand there with your handout. I will keep giving to people in need while you wait for the government to make things all better.

Good day, Comrade!

You’re really dumb. I’m sure you live in a shit box and have never contributed a damn thing to democracy.

Did I hit a nerve? Have I offended you to the point you no longer want my tax dollars to fund the socialist policies you rely on?
No you didn’t hit any nerve, you’re too dumb to bother me. I know you want to because you’re a little Cuck that likes to ask daddy trump if you did good. ‘Your tax dollars’ aren’t shit. YOU aren’t paying for shit. If YOU don’t want to pay in for the greater good, YOU should leave. You dumbass.

Europe with its higher life expectancy, better healthcare outcomes, excellent education systems, adequate pensions for all, lower crime rates, higher satisfaction and happiness indexes and overall quality of life.

What a disaster!

Any insights on when Medicaid was privatized?
It was a giant boon for private insurers, and a massive cost to Iowa taxpayers.

Because the "free market benefits" never materialized, and the private insurers weren't able to administer the programs as efficiently as the state was.
