It's been a "phenomenal" first half of the season for our Hawkeyes. But here's what I'm REALLY stoked about.

We've got 4 really talented Seniors on this team. Think back the past few years and the remarkable performances we've gotten out of our Seniors as the season was coming to a close.

Gatens, White and to some extent Marble, took their games to a whole other level as the number of games with a Hawkeye jersey were closing in on zero.

Now just imagine what Utoff might be capable of when he starts to feel that clock counting down! Not to mention Gesell, Sapp, and Woodbury all feeling that same clock and refusing to lose.

It's going to be a special year my friends I can feel it. It's a great time to be a Hawkeye fan!

We can throw in Olaseni also. Experienced that players grow from is like another player on the court. It creates confidence and poise.

It's been a LONG time since we've had a veteran team like this. Leadership is what kept Tom Davis around so long. Being able to redshirt guys and learn the system is huge.

Fran is turned the corner big time.

Most of all College players will not play at the professional level. Just not enough teams for one thing. Red shirting can be such a great opportunity for almost all players to really get grounded and create a plan to succeed in their sport and academics. I am sure It is hard to see that when you have dreams of NBA and NFL.

Just watching Mike play D the other night on UM's guard Walton was a friggn thing of beauty. I think it's the first time I've ever played backed multiple times a defensive play of a guy keeping/moving his feet to stay in front of a dribble drive move by another player as quick as Walton is. Check it out.

But that's what ya get with guys like Mike who are very talented and have been playing now for 4 years.

Another thing I noticed. Towards the end of the UM game, Wagner picked up a blocking foul on the baseline trying to stay in front of his guy and Mike comes over to tell Wags to keep your arms up as you move your feet which if you watch Mike, he does this text book like....again, a thing of beauty and what you get with great senior leadership.

If I'm a young Hawkeye guard I'm watching Mike/AC and learning from their effort and concentration. Tough defenders. Now each hitting big shots, almost everything you could have asked for from them coming into this year.

I don't see this team with the 2014 collapse. I'm thinking we finish 13-5 or 14-4, either of which would be almost 30 year highs. That's bringing us all the way back with a load of young talent behind this group.

RPIforecast projects that we have over a 60% chance to finish 15-3 or better in the Big 10.

It's crazy to think that your prediction of 13-5 or 14-4 is actually a pessimistic prediction when compared to neutral statistical models.

A team full of seniors is very rare on today's college landscape and requires a lot of planning, a lot of luck and players that are truly team players and not super stars. Probably lends to some up and down years, but sure is fun this year. Having been a Hawkeye fan for approx 60 years, this may be the best shape that the basketball and football teams have been in at the same time.
