Southeast Polk with 6 in the finals and came away with only 1 champ (Barnes). They still won team title by large margin, but coach has to be put-out by those finals matches. Helluva team they had this year. First time a 3A school has won team state title 3 years in a row. I think SEP was calling weight classes 120 -145lbs - "MURDERER's ROW." Who's back for next year? 4th in a row??

Good program for sure. How about Solon winning it by a half a point? Though for sure New Hampton would roll everybody this year.

West Waterloo did it twice, actually 3 in a row in the 60s and 5 in a row before that.
Just an FYI, sorry.

Check that: that was probably before the 3 class system. Sorry

New Hampton went through a gauntlet at sectionals and districts and it hurt them. That said they had their chances and didn't come through. Solon was a deserving winner.

Solon was helped by two #1 ranked twins that transferred before their senior year. Both in the finals accounts for a lot of State Tournament points.

Regardless coach Williams is a great coach and has completely turned around their program.

To be fair New Hampton benefitted from the Millage (and true #1, state champ over West) transfer.

That sure doesn't hurt. It won't win you a State Title on it's own most likely, but it will definitely get you headed in the right direction at making a strong run.

It can't hurt when the outcome is less than a point and you win the State Team title. But NH also had a transfer from another school.

Well neither school is the first, and neither will be the last....... think we can all agree on that one! Ha!

Agree, but doesn't mean I like it, or that it helps grow the sport. When the best wrestlers stay at their school it helps grows that schools program. Brings more more fans and future wrestlers to meets and ultimately into wrestling. How do you build a program when kids up and leave? Everyone talks about too many weights or adding eighth graders, but the transfers are what is killing high school wrestling.
Fifteen years ago West Dubuque would've walked away with a title this year. 3 champs and few more place winners now gets you a fourth place behind a few all-star teams!?

Their mom did get a job in the Solon school district so can't blame the family for wanting to live and work in the same school district.

Yes, and it is quite coincidental that she just happened to be the best person for the job! Pretty amazing stuff. And of course there's no way one commute until the end of the school year.

I'm being overtly cynical. I don't like transfers, but it's a free country and everyone plays by the same rules. But let's at least call a spade a spade.

Excellent. May end up as your best work yet.

He just had two 2 point matches with kids that probably won't wrestle in college. D1 talent should be smashing any high school wrestler every time out. What does he do especially well that makes him a D1 talent?

Actually 15 years ago they would've walked away with second to FD. But your point in valid, FD would've walked away with the last 2 15 years ago.

He's a HS jr. Do you think it's a little early to be predicting what kind of college career he'll have?

Well if that's true, then newly minted four time Illinois state champ and #3 ranked Austin O'Connor needs to hang his head for only beating Brands 5-3.

Those guys aren't going to wrestle in college? How do you know this? Brands is a junior, a two time champ, and has national accolades. If you don't think he's "D1" you're clueless.

Lara, and Yant are not "D1" talent, and both of them went toe to toe with Brands. If you think he's "D1" you're clueless.

OK first you say they aren't going to wrestle in college and now you're saying they aren't "D1". OK--which is it? Are you going to move the goal posts again?

BTW, Derek St. John LOST in the first round at state as a senior to a guy who I don't think even achieved AA at D3. Was St. John also not a D1 talent?

I said they weren't D1 talent, AND they won't wrestle in college. I said BOTH of those things. For being a know it all, you're a stupid bastard. I wouldn't mind being wrong about Brands or the other two wrestlers.

You claim they are going to wrestle in college. Even though you don't have a clue. You refuse to address the St. John question. But yeah, I'm the stupid one. You got me.

Didn't St. John lose in the semi's to Nicholson from Roosevelt who went to Old Dominion?

Remember the conversation about all of the guys who never won a state title that went on to win NCAA's? Its crazy how so many guys that aren't D1 talent turn into studs...
