Seth Gross Aftermath

Thanks for the link, choose. Good read. Obviously would have been great to have Seth on the Iowa roster, but a fresh start was clearly necessary. Seems clear to me that he's learned a lot from his mistake. I'll be pulling for him.

Great read.

Good to hear what went on that night first hand. Being a stupid college student one day myself, this is what I and many others had assumed went on. Not nearly as ominous as others had assumed though.

Wish Seth would have stuck it out at Iowa as I think he would have been successful here. I can see that he felt that he needed a new start and I will be pulling for him as well (except at the Iowa meet of course).

idk some of it seemed like he wasn't accepting blame. why did he still have open container when police arrived. acts like he was only drinking because the others were but he was only one that still had a beer? or did I read it wrong.

CP got a good interview there. I think Seth made the correct decision on a fresh start and he deserves a second chance. Time for everyone to move on.

Good luck to Seth. I will be rooting for him (except vs. Iowa of course). Young people (especially young men) do stupid things. I did plenty when I was his age. In fact, it's kind of built in. Young people don't have the frontal lobe development to inhibit decision making. That's not to say that all make bad decisions to the same degree, but it's pretty well documented. Add in alcohol and even kids with very good moral compasses can make very bad choices. Here's an article on the immature frontal lobe development in young people as an example. I'm glad he's getting a 2nd chance.

What seems to be the biggest aftermath is the fact that he seemed to be good friends with M Hall and that Iowa faded from the discussion after this all went down.

Let's not go down the rabbit hole of this incident affecting whether or not Mark Hall becomes a Hawkeye. Gross had a bad night and now he has a fresh start. Let's be happy for the kid that he's not letting this incident get the best of him. I would have loved to see him in the black and gold singlet, but I'll still root for him as a Jackrabbit because I like to see good guys come out on top.

I somewhat agree with this. I think he deserved a second chance, but his side of the story doesn't really make me feel bad for him. He probably didn't have intentions of doing anything bad that night, but he made some extremely bad decisions, and people have the right to criticize those decisions. His chance to prove that he really is a good kid and lives by a certain standard is dependent on what he does going forward.

So, is Iowa no longer an option for Mr. Hall? Is this a fact? or spitballn'.

For a few months he seemed to be throwing Iowa around a lot in any discussion of where he was going. He seemed to be pretty close to Gross. After the incident Iowa was not really brought up again as an option. Take it for what it is worth.

As far as Iowa being an option. He took 5 official visits to other schools and not Iowa. Maybe he had his eye set on Iowa the whole time and he wants to put up smokescreens to make his announcement that much a bigger deal. Crazier things have happened but I doubt it.

If he wants to start his Iowa villain career off right this would be a great way to do it.

No way Hall shocks the world and picks the Hawks. I'd love it but my humble opinion is that ship has sailed.

First, I wish Gross well.

Personally I'm not a big fan of abstinence as a deterrent to pretty much anything. If you never drink and then you do it once--in a big way--sometimes that's worse than, you know, learning the art of moderation. Sometimes being too strict can backfire.

That's not a judgment of Gross or his upbringing or religious convictions; on the contrary, he seems to have been raised in a loving, supportive environment, and that'll serve him well.

Just saying if I'd spent my four years at Iowa without ever going to a bar and doing things that young adults do, I would've been miserable. It would've driven me to drink.

After reading it, I see that he got caught doing things I did and I never was caught. (I did not steal things but was around people who did so guilt by association). I made so many stupid choices as a younger person I am sometimes amazed I lived through some of it and wonder how I avoided jail. He had consequences for his actions and still had a road to hoe. Second chances are a blessing and should be taken advantage of. Further there should be opportunities to be restored. It seems he has that chance and wants to do better. Being a Christian by no means protects you from big mistakes. I have always said, it is not if you fall down. You always will. It is how you get back up that matters. I wish him well.

Agree on the downside of abstinence. When I first went off to college after not drinking in High School there were some ugly events. With my own kids the rule was they could have wine with dinner from age 14. It made the whole alcohol thing no big deal. It worked great with both kids.

Funny you say that, FineMaterial. In highschool my girlfriend was from Denmark and said they drank wine with meals at a young age and would have a glass of wine or beer with friends at the age of sixteen after school. She couldn't understand our binge drinking and how stupid we were when doing so. It was an arrow drawn back and let fly for us.

That being said, I think he should have had a second chance even though the theft part is a tough one. He's was a 141 pounder, that should of have been enough.

He didn't take any responsibility for his actions and he can't wait for the Iowa meet. I hope our guy is ready to put it to him.
Yeah, maybe reading too much into it, but he seems all excited about facing Iowa, sort of like a "revenge" statement. Not Iowa's fault he got his ass in trouble, and Ryan is still around so.......................... he made his bed, he'll have to deal with it the best he can I guess.

You always seem to be in "the know"-
At least that's what you have said/quoted - Is all your information second hand?? Or your personal In Room Experience??? Because, if its NOT in room experience-- it's NOT Accurate!
