Better talk to France then about taking care of vehicle deaths and knives - seems to be a constant there.

If someone wants to cause harm (tim mcveigh) they will and no law, restriction, regulation, etc will stop them.

Of course they will, but I will take my chance keeping trucks and knives out there. Anyone who says those things are comparable to the purpose and effectiveness of an automatic weapon is a complete idiot.

Van: Also gets you places.
Knife: Also cuts food, wood, and other things.
Automatic weapon: umm...looks pretty badass hanging on a wall.

Again - if someone wants to cause harm, they will. Whether it be with a semi-automatic rifle, rice cooker or a load of fertilizer. Laws only apply to those that follow them.

No, but you might be able to do something to limit the extent of the harm such a person can inflict.
They just go get a truck and ram it into a crowd of Innocents. Then what? Frankly, I'm surprised that isn't a more favorable option.
I'm sorry but I am not of the opinion that 3 senseless death are somehow less appalling than 50. That's insulting to the 3 dead people.
I'm perfectly fine with discussing options as long as people realize that 300 million (est) cats are already out of the bag.
You can't put the genie back in the bottle and you can't stop crazy people from doing crazy shit.

The speed, pattern and inconsistent rate of gunfire heard in videos of the Las Vegas shooting indicate the suspect could have used cheap and legal modification devices to accelerate the firing of a semi-automatic weapon

Now - you can modify a van to be a bomb and kills hundreds,

you can include knives in a rice cooker as shrapnel, you can shoot many people with a semi-auto.

If someone wants to cause harm, they will find a way. He planned this out, much like TM planned out the bombing. No one suspected or knew until afterwards.

We actually monitor things like fertilizer now too.Gun laws actually work. Irrefutably. You should talk to Australia, Scotland, and other places that had leaders with spines who weren't bankrolled by the gun lobby. AND, as many here have pointed out. These guns are made to kill. No other way to slice it.

Once again, completely missing the point of my post (hint: the specifics are irrelevant).

You can't compare somebody using a vehicle as a weapon to a gun. Vehicles have other uses other than killing people. Guns, well, they have one purpose.

You're trying hard to justify guns. Time for an adult conversation on guns in this country. Way to easy to get excessive firepower.

They put the cats back in the bag in Australia. I'm not saying that's what we should do here but you can't say that it isn't possible because it is. We just have to want to do it and be willing to live with the consequences of the steps required to do it.

Really what is the only purpose for weapon? If guns only have one purpose and vans are the multi-tool, which is responsible for killing more people in the US?

Yep - laws right. What about those that don't follow laws?

Oh God, just stop. The sad thing is our President has surrounded himself with people who use the same level of reasoning as volknut here just used.

It seems people of your intellect are the ones that have been driving the country down the dead end road for the past 8 years. YOu can't answer it because it doesn't fit your narrative, I understand and have empathy for you.

Do guns kill people, yes. Will banning them stop it, no. You will ALWAYS have people doing stupid shit bio.

A damn site fewer cats in Australia. And Australia is not the United States. I believe in the right to own firearms. I am not one of these people that owns dozens of guns and thousands of rounds of ammo. I don't own an assault rifle. I don't carry a gun. But I'm here to tell you that if they pass a law asking everyone to turn in their guns to the local law enforcement agency, I'm not doing it. I own several guns that are not registered to me, through inheritance or family handing them down.
if I have that opinion, what do you think the likely hood of the other tens of millions of gun owners is? I think there are millions of gun owners that would rather risk jail than turn over the right. That's just my opinion, however.

Lol - talking about mental health. Of course, the shooter was white. So predictable, it's a cliche.

As for all the talk about the gun being illegal - the dude lived just outside if Vegas. It's like the NRAs wet dream out there. I once saw a truck towing a dune buggy with a .50 cal mounted on top out there.

Did he have a shit-ton af guns in the room? Yep, but you all keep telling us that's your right and to mind our own business.

I am in favor of mental health check up before gun purchase. I would have zero problem with an assault rifle ban. I don't think they serve much purpose.

I did not realize these countries had a constitution similar to ours.

And on your mental health argument, for the last 10 to 15 years I have dealt with the mental health industry. They need to get their shit together. Horrible set up to work through. One person says oh all you need is drugs and the next one is no no just therapy. Then there is addiction. One of my favorite lines from a nurse, your son wants to kill himself but we just deal with addiction here so we are just going to let him out. Then another 3 years of meds, no therapy until he finally tried to kill himself then they got him a combination of both.

They need to figure out which direction they are going before you get too carried away.

I think you missed that guns are also used to hunt animals (you know...for food) and target shooting, both for fun and competition and maybe they are used to defend one's property as well, and probably several other purposes outside of killing people. But you know, liberal logic and all...

What's the definition of an "assault rifle"?

A scary looking gun (that they have no idea what caliber it is, or could be), duh. That Ruger .22 rifle that looks mean is going to do a TON more damage than the old .22 that looks like a normal rifle. Geez, surprised you didn't know that...

"defending one's home" is a synonym for killing people. Hunting can be done with a bolt action rifle.

Did BioHawk define what type of gun he was speaking of? Nope, didn't think so. He grouped all "guns" into the same category with his statement, which is obviously incorrect.
And defending ones home is a synonym for killing people, it's used to protect my family and my property. I don't have to kill someone with it for it to be effective.

Now you're just being argumentative. It's only effective because of it's ability to kill.

Or wound.
And again, BioHawk said gun, not "assault rifle" which is 95% of the time the incorrect verbiage to use when describing a firearm

How are you going to catch the people who flip out and commit mass murder? I agree it takes a snap in the head to go that far. But two days ago this particular shooter could have passed an evaluation easily.

We've already changed laws that needed changing. Remember the 16 year old behind this song?

Just a month or two before her killing spree a school psychologist had her get a mental evaluation with a psychiatrist who found her a danger to herself and others. When her Dad was informed he basically said, "Bug off!" That can't happen anymore. The psychiatrist himself can now work within the law to have someone like that committed.

The PROBLEM is, today, if a person willingly seeks help they will face all kinds of Draconian possibilities. Having the right to own a gun taken away is just a small part of what can happen. This kind of stuff leads to people who NEED help deciding not to seek it.

And still, a reminder, people intent on doing harm are NOT going to out themselves in an evaluation.

Your idea is well meaning...good intent, but won't work.

I think I pretty much included all this in my statement.

There you have it and I am done complaining. Our country accepts massacres. I mean, at least quit giving lip service that you care. Thats so patronizing. You get your guns. Good for you.

I'm sorry. I'm not familiar with the gun that helps clean your driveway or the version that can change the channel on your TV. Guns have one purpose, that is to kill things. It does not matter what kind of gun it is.

What is a knife designed to do? I can pick up any knife in my drawer at home and gravely injure someone with it, and it doesn't help me clean my driveway or change the channel on my tv.

  • Although federal law prohibits the possession of newly manufactured machine (automatic) guns, it allows the transfer of machine guns lawfully owned prior to May 19, 1986, if the transfer is approved by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF);
  • A substantial number of machine guns are still in circulation — as of November 2006, the national registry of machine guns contained registrations for 391,532 of them.
