Thursday night we shot 51% from the field, 52% from 3, and 82% from the line.

Friday night we shot 35% from the field, 6% from 3, and 55% from the line.

If we hit the same percentages last night as Thursday it’s a whole new game. 3 pointers alone would make up the 21 point deficit. 5 points at the free throw line were missed from the worse shooting. 2-4 points from 2 pointers were missed.

We likely would have had fewer offensive rebounds meaning fewer shots taken, so we wouldn’t have made up the 28-30 points I listed, but we would have been right in the game to the end. It just goes to show you that when our shooters are hitting we can beat a lot of teams. But when the shooters aren’t hitting like has been the case for the past month and a half, Illinois game excluded, we are a below average team. Unlike in football we aren’t good enough on defense to make up for our offense not showing up. We’re probably sitting at 25+ wins right now if our shooting didn’t drop off a cliff in the latter part of the season.

Michigan made 8 threes to Iowa's 6 in our first meeting, but Iowa made more total shots, shooting mid-40% against the once-vaunted Wolverines defense.

We missed a ton of looks in the paint tonight because our guys were leaving their feet/dribble too soon, or settling for turnaround/fadeaway contested shots. It's one thing if those shots are going down, but they HAVE to recognize that when those kind of shots aren't dropping, they need to look to move the ball a bit more to create good looks, or at least better looks than the shots that aren't falling.

Iowa also needs to make better use of their pick and roll. I have no idea why we dribble off a screen and just pause, looking for the pass....and then kind of drift away once the defense has recovered, and by then we've wasted precious seconds in the shot clock, not really doing much of anything because they didn't try to create with the options the defense gave them.

Adjust to what the defense gives you and use it to create space for other looks if you can't create a shot right away off a pick and roll.
