Fans can blame Fran all they want but you can’t blame him for this 3 game shooting slump. Iowa has hit only 19 of 70 for 27.1% on 3 point shooting over the last 3 games. Before the slump the Hawks were 34th nationally now their 73rd. When those shots drop it opens up the lane for Cook and Garza and also sets up the defense. Let’s all hope the slump has ended!

Sounds like an excuse Fran would give. Shots not falling must also cause lazy and careless basketball

I agree! I thought defense was fine today. Some dumb turnovers. I just don't know what happened to the shooting. They got some good looks and clanked every last one of them.

Maybe the players are just tired and don't have the legs anymore.

Fran has not recruited players that can beat their man off the dribble to get shots at the rim, or create open looks for others by breaking the defense down. It is partially his fault. Teams are crowding the shooters because we cannot beat anyone on the bounce.

Fran's (and Barta's) theme song speaks volumes about their pride/ egos.

From the Eagles "Hell Freezes over"

How about shot selection

I think i mentioned this on 3 different threads

We were up 11 to 8 and shot 3-4 contested 3 balls either on a break or in half court not good for a "mature" team

No excuse for crappy defense, crappy rebounding and crappy effort.

You can absolutely blame the coach(es). Our players' skillset as well as our offense relies on making 3's to win games. That's called one-dimensional, which doesn't typically take programs very far. The players were brought here by the coaches.

The shots are not falling because the half-court offense is a disaster and they have to throw up bad shots at the end of the clock. Not to mention the offensive floor spacing, screens, and cuts are horrendous.

The stupid running JBO off of screens doesn’t work when no one slips a screen or perhaps rolls after their screen.

Offense is an issue, but im concerned about defense. Yes we gave up 65 ( but a slow tempo team like Wisky, that’s like scoring 90). Our defense is flat out horrible and there is no excuse. How does wiskys guards get past our guards? It’s almost comical watching them defend, there is not communicating or rotating and if there is a rotation, someone is always open. I think their poor shooting has affected their defense intensity. Like the North Florida coach said a few years ago “They allow one end of the floor dictate the other” and good teams don’t allow that to happen.

Exactly.

Think this is the key. Many games in later part of game & shots are not falling, announcers usually mention "tired legs". Friend that lives in IC & has seen some practices, says kids are really worked. Could be the reason the poor shooting lately.

I GIVE UP WHEN I READ IN A POST ABOVE THAT THE DEFENSE WAS FINE TODAY. IF THERE IS ONE THING THAT SHOULD NEVER BE SAID ABOUT THIS IOWA TEAM IS THE DEFENSE IS FINE.

If that’s true-then time to work on offensive rebounds and defensive stops. Seemed like last night we were only getting one chance -if we missed whisky got the rebound.
