Should only division games decide the division winner?

I forget who on BTN said this should be the case because the crossover games are not balanced, especially this year. Wisconsin's crossover games are much easier than Iowa's.

IF Iowa finishes tied or better with Wisconsin (division games only) and beats Wisconsin, shouldn't Iowa be the 2017 West division champions?

What sport does this? It's fine the way it is. Doubt anyone here cared in 2015 ;)
That said, if they ARE going to count them they need to get rid of the east/west "rivalry" crap the are trying to start.

They weren't trying to "start" rivalries. They were trying to preserve them, and not lose them with divisions. (Iowa Purdue was just what was leftover (before MD and RU came in and changed it all again)).

IIRC, it was announced as "parity scheduling," so that every team got a simarly talented team from the other division. Basically done to ensure some big cross-divisional games among the better programs.

Why they felt the need to extend it to 6 years without re-evaluation, I have no idea. 2 years would be best, but could see 4 years out for logistical reasons. 6 is dumb, outside of the very top and very bottom, there's a lot of fluctuation over 6 years.

No.
Best team will win.

Don't cheapen competition. Play the schedule that's in front of you and the best record wins period.

Completely agree. I already don't like the fact that teams in the B1G East aren't on Iowa's schedule enough. If you make division record the #1 determinant of division winner, then crossover games might as well be non-conference.

I certainly see why Iowa fans suddenly have this opinion this particular year, but if Iowa happens to have a miracle run and win out but finish behind Wisconsin, it would just end up being one of those quirky years.

I posted a few weeks ago that’s I think I’d support a cross-division games are worth half as much as division games, or something similar. Or maybe leave it as it is except that if you go 6-0 in division games you win the division.

However rewarding the division champ is not the purpose of the CCG. it’s to make money. That means the highest ranked opponents and gaining the best chance at getting a team in the playoff. Hence a game with an 11-1 team that lost to the 8-4 team that went 6-0 in the division but lost all three cross overs is better for business.

I suppose counting cross-over games fully like we do now should reduce the chance for rematches in the CCG; the team that won the regular season matchup (PSU/MSU) seriously hurts the division chances of the other team (Iowa) the way it is now.

We didn’t win division in 2015 because of weak crossover games. We won because we went 6-0 within the division. Had we lost to OSU and MSU during regular season we still would have been in CCG.

But not if we would have lost to all 3.. which I know was only 2 back then but with 3 crossovers I think there should be some regulation

I'd hate to see a 7-5 team in the championship game or something like that. I would not at all look forward to the debate that has 7-5 (unranked) beating 9-3 or 10-2 (Top 15).

I've thought this from day one.

Anything else is bullshit. (Unless we have the weak schedule.)

But................you do need to make all games meaningful.
