Should this police officer be fired?

If one of my employees is a law enforcement officer called to the scene of a crazy woman threatening airport employees, trespassing in secure spaces, screaming obscenities, and charging into my employee's face yelling "WHAT YOU GONNA DO?

Absolutely not. She was getting ready to punch him in the face. He's supposed to wait for it?

yes

He should be fired for sticking her like that. However, the fvcked up thing about this is that just about everything he could have done to calm the situation was going to get him fired.

Taser? Fired.
Mace? Fired.
Handcuff her on the ground? Fired.
Leave the scene and let her continue? Fired.

He was doomed the moment he got the call. Shoulda just turned his badge in right there.

We can expect a lot more annoying ass holes like this lady fvcking up normal daily interactions because they can either get away with it or sue when they get their asses kicked.

I agree she isn't. But cops need to be in control of their emotions. I wouldn't want to rely on this guy's judgment in a pressure situation. This was awfully low stakes.

Especially when he could have stepped back and let one of the other 3 cops on scene address her.

You've never worked in retail or fastfood have you? Stuff like this has been going on for decades.

He should be placed in charge of airport security. As a former airline agent we appreciate cops that back us up

this is the biggest problem cops are now facing. Bunch of idiots emboldened to be assholes hoping for a response.

he absolutely should not have hit her. She did deserve it however.

Let me know when some asshole robs you or worse and there are no cops to intervene.

Good times. Can't wait for the change.

Ill take my chances. Haven’t needed them yet. And, they wouldn’t be there anyway if I did.
I also can’t wait for the change and it’s finally happening.
And, cops like this are helping the cause.

The incident began after an airline ticket agent called police, the mayor said.
A dispatcher told Rodriguez that Anderson was behind a re-booking counter, threatening employees. Rodriguez, when he arrived, saw her "yelling obscenities" at the workers, Rodriguez wrote in the arrest affidavit.

According to the affidavit, a service center supervisor told Rodriguez that:

• Anderson had arrived late for her flight and was denied boarding, and was directed a re-booking desk to be assigned to a different flight.

• She became upset when she was told the next available flight to her final destination wouldn't be until the next morning.

• Anderson went behind the counter to retrieve her boarding pass, and when she was told she wasn't allowed to be there, she allegedly threatened and cursed employees.

• The supervisor told the woman she now would not travel with the airline, and her fare would be reimbursed.

In the affidavit, Rodriguez writes that he then spoke to Anderson, and told her she'd be able to find a flight with another provider. He asked her to gather her belongings so he and another officer could escort her away from the airport's secured side, the affidavit reads.

Anderson "became belligerent and began to yell obscenities" and, referring to the service supervisor, said, "I should go over there and punch him in his face," the affidavit reads.

When Rodriguez told her again to gather her belongings, Anderson "aggressively approached this officer (Rodriguez) violating this officer's personal space, bumped this officer with her body and struck this officer with her head on the chin while screaming, 'What are you going to do?' " according to the affidavit.

"This officer immediately took a step back, struck (her) on the left side of the face with an open hand. (She) stumbled backwards and at that time she was taken to the floor where she was taken into custody," the affidavit states.

I guess she found out what he was going to do about her disorderly, obscene, threatening bullshit.

I think this guy just wanted to get a beard trim, or take his fishing boat out, not rebook a flight. And he could have been spreading the Covid virus in the cops' faces.

The cops maintained their composure.

What does that have anything at all to do with my comment? Yes. It’s been going on for a long time. And during that time, a call to the police solved the issue and everyone went on their way. Now, a cop is just as helpless as the retailer. That’s the thing that HASN’T been going on forever. That’s brand spanking new.

I've seen worse than this working fast food as a teen. When the cops had to come. And arrest someone. The perp was just as bad as this lady. They handled it without throwing fists. Talked him down. Took a half hour but problem was solved. As someone before said this shit isn't new. Just we didn't have the internet to broadcast it.

I bet he thinks it was worth it to clock the (b)itch. By the way, that's 100% Miami, right there.
He should have kept his composure.

It seems like the other cops on the scene moved to stop him.
And, we’re seeing the body camera footage right away. They used to hide footage like that for months when they could.
So, accountability seems like it may be improving.
