Shout out to Joe T!!!

Solid, solid, solid performance by Joe T! Haven't looked at the stats, but I think 6 Assists and 0 TOs. And his usual tough D. If he can continue to take care of the ball, this team can go very far!
Very solid minutes from Joe T today. Hopefully this propels him for the rest of the season. If he stays engaged like he was today, he can bring a big lift off the bench and allow Jbo some minutes off the ball helping rotations with Jack out now.

Joe T was better than solid. He was very, very good. We need his quickness.

I do wish Fran would move him off the in bounding. Yes he’s a good passer, but he has limited vision. If nothing else, he’s quick enough to get open when others can’t. I’d have to go back and rewatch it, but it didn’t appear anyone could get open on that in bounds today.

7 assists in 14 minutes—— let’s see for 40 minutes that would have been—- never mind. The one turnover was not his fault as the four on the floor basically stood around for 5 seconds. Joe T’s best game since Gonzaga! JoBo with a solid 8 point, 5 assist game too. I was elated that the PGs were in attack mode and forcing the action. Congrats to JoBo on the record—— very deserved for a fine young man who has given his all. 6 of the 8 that played today played lights out!

Good post OP. Just posted similar comments. Great game by Joe T. for sure. For two years I have lobbied for more Joe T. but recent performances have eroded my confidence in him. Tonight he was huge in a must win game and helped take up some of the slack from missing Nunge. I think this might have been his best game given the stakes. He was aggressive, but not out of control which has been a tough line for him to walk. Like Murray, Joe T. can steal a couple extra possessions for Iowa with his athleticism and hustle.

Amen

Did Fran comment on Joe T in the post-game?

Gary & Bobby had Joe T. on as he was the WHO player of the game. Joe said he'd spoken to his Mom & Dad recently and they had encouraged him to stay aggressive and play like he knows how to.

Fran then came on and said he did a great job playing under control today and that his defensive intensity was impressive.

7 assists and Great defense !

That’s been a continuing problem no matter who is inbounding. Needs to get fixed.

Great game and was disruptive on defense. Had two or three excellent passes/assists. My favorite was the catch and pass in mid air that set up the three.

His defense is what makes it for me. He's relentless (albeit too much sometimes and gets silly fouls) but he's going to try to scrap for everything.

Yep, that inbounds pass wasn't his fault IMO, and I'm not a Joe T apologist. Nobody broke free or towards him, he literally had to throw it or call a T.O.

He was great today on both ends, no doubt about it. Shocked me TBH.

Said it in another thread, I'm not a big Joe T fan (nor a hater), but he was the MVP of this game IMO, even with the limited minutes.

I hope this ends up being a huge turning point for him at Iowa. Its shocking the difference between earlier in the year with his turnovers, lack of effort on D, and selfish/out of control play and today’s effort which could not have been more opposite. He’s the best PG in a generation of Iowa basketball if he finds a way to play like that all of the time.

Shoutout to Keegan Murray today too. He played incredible basketball out there today - I would even go as far to say that he was the MVP for the minutes he played today. Great passing, finished at the rim, great defense including two awesome blocks and a steal or two, etc. His fouls were even great - not allowing easy buckets making them earn it on the line. The future is pretty bright out there with these two.

Im sure others have mentioned it but I think he gets better the more he plays. He nutted up today and walked the walk. I think we see him close to 20 mins a game from here on out. JBo is better off closer to 28 min a game and Toussaint can play. Loved the random full court pressure.

Our D was solid tonight. Let's keep it up! I thought that Fran would rotate in another player(s). BUT maybe that is why the defense was solid - limited rotation. It kept the offense more stable which always helps the defense. And allowed for more continuity of the D end.

You can have Joe and I'll take L. Garza..:)
Joe T did his thing in about 1/3 of the minutes. I actually thought Luka would go for at least 30 in this game, but he was more efficient and wasn't forcing near as much as he has been, which was good.

I think everybody played well, except for Connor. He struggled and got yanked multiple times for doing "unlike Connor" things. We got a big W, that's the most important thing.

It’s only understandable that Joe has talked thru his frustrations with his parents. Only surmising, but the transfer topic has probably been discussed some. Hopefully he stays and proves the naysayers wrong over the next 2 years.

Iowa can be really good with that extra element that JoeT brings when playing well. You saw it today on both ends of the floor of what he can do. I think the coaches just want to see him be more consistent.

I really want more (when opposing line up allows) Joe T and JBo combo. Run a few sets for JBo and let Joe T penetrate if nothing there. Maybe Neb the perfect time to mix up some rotations to gear up for postseason.

And the foul call on Keegan on the one block was as clean as a block could be. The only contact there was the offensive guy extending his arm into KM.

On the Fran comments afterwards - I think I read that he said if Joe plays like this every game he will get more playing time. I would guess he has said this to Joe many times too. Hopefully Joe has turned the corner.

Sometimes I think if you can weather Joe's first couple of minutes after he comes into a game, he will reward you with some steady play once he calms down.
