Signal text chain released

You don’t just start investigations of reporters or Americans in general without some indication of a crime.

Good grief.
And what would be the crime? Genuinely asking.

Is it a crime to disclose potentially classified info if you aren’t under any obligation to keep it confidential, and you didn’t do anything to obtain it?

I miss Betty…..

I'm not defending anything.

I am curious as to why the reporter has changed his mind though, given that future attacks could take place.

WTF does future attacks have to do with anything. Goldberg shined the light on perjury to Congress, monumental incompetence of epic proportions, and character assassination which I hope ends with defamation correction.

You say you're not defending anything, JFC.

That's all you MAGAs do. After all, you have to.

Like I said to the other person who has the same stance, "I see your perspective." For me, as a retired Intel Analyst, I cringe every time I see the crap get leaked, published, etc. Knowing what the IC does to protect sources, procedures, basically our TTPs, it makes me nauseated.

I sincerely see the civilian side of this though.
👍The relevant question from the civilian side would be why this doesn't nauseate EVERYONE? There is literally no doubt that what they did was illegal as hell...DANGEROUS as hell. Who knows where the guy in Moscow was while he was participating in what should have been a highly classified briefing.

I am truly baffled every time a story like this appears...and they appear over and over and over again...and it just gets excused by the usual suspects. Like I've said, the one time Trump nailed it was when he said he could murder someone right in front of these people and they'd still support him. Hell, they'd cheer him on.

Yes because the threat of an incompetent leader exposing classified info for future missions has now gone down. We can be pretty damn sure the admin will now use better discipline when handling classified intel in the future. That is a net positive for the safety and security of our finest. Full stop.
Can we?

Let’s not act as if your statement hasn’t happened before. Good grief.

What if the info he shared is sensitive enough to prosecute? They may have baited him.

Well, who knows with this Supreme Court, but from a series of cases including the one I already linked and the Pentagon Papers cases, and others, the general rule is no liability if you did nothing improper to receive the info - you didn’t ask the reporter to get the info for you, you didn’t pay for the info, you didn’t illegally record a source, etc.

If it comes in over the transom anonymously, you can print it with little fear of prosecution.

Let’s not act as if your statement hasn’t happened befire. Good grief.

So prior wrongs make it right for you to demand an investigation? Good grief indeed.

And if it was a trap, it was the Dumbest sting ever.

You don’t really believe that? If you do, you need to step away from Fox immediately.

LOL...they let him off ANY legal hook by confirming multiple times that there was no classified material shared. None. Goldberg did exactly the correct thing. A responsible reporter, coming into possession of possibly classified intelligence, will contact the administration to make sure there is nothing that might be too sensitive to release. The Atlantic did exactly that. They were assured this meeting did not include classified material. The Atlantic DID withhold the name of an active CIA operative so they did precisely what should have been done. Period. There is nothing to investigate on Goldberg's side. He has Supreme Court precedent on his side. What might Hegseth or Waltz have besides the unwavering, lapdog obsequiousness of the maggot horde?

Senior officials at DOD had been explicitly warned to not use commercial apps to exchange ANY important information. This was all about doing things behind a curtain where they could destroy the evidence, and the curtain fell. The question left to ponder is how much business ARE they doing with no record of what happened.

CIA Director said Signal was installed on his work phone and had been approved for use by the prior admin.
Shall we ponder how long they’ve been doing business this way?
Or does that risk diluting the outrage?

Trump thought everyone he's surrounded by would follow him lock step? And there might be some staffer with a sense of decency that added JG to reveal the incompetence?

I would think an investigation would be in order regardless of your statement so we have an official account of what happened.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they found the info sensitive enough to be shared in the manner the reporter did, it’s all I’m saying.

Oh…

Oh...

Likely bc the administration attacked him, called him a liar & he had receipts. Would you not do the same?
that wasn't a serious question...everyone knows why a person who's being called a liar by the highest levels of government would want to show everyone that they aren't lying

there isn't really any good way to react to this story other than "wow...those guys screwed up"...and of course that can't be said!

so some people will have to look for any little room for something anyone else did that was wrong...no matter how ridiculous they sound in doing so

Trump Rips Waltz As 'So Stupid' As Full Signal Chat Released: Live Updates

Story by Amanda Castro

President Donald Trump is reportedly furious with National Security Adviser Mike Waltz after he mistakenly added Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to a Signal group chat discussing sensitive military plans. Trump was less concerned about the potential security breach and more upset that Waltz had Goldberg's number saved in the first place, sources say.
The Atlantic released the full Signal chat between senior Trump administration officials on Wednesday, exposing how Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed the exact times of warplane launches via the unclassified messaging app. The information, considered potentially classified, was shared before U.S. pilots were airborne.

What to Know:

  • Trump called Waltz "so stupid" for the mistake, according to a source cited by Politico.
  • The group chat included top officials discussing a planned strike on the Houthis.
  • The White House has since downplayed the sensitivity of the leaked information.
  • Waltz took responsibility but claimed Goldberg's number was added in error.
  • Despite Trump publicly backing Waltz, insiders say his future remains uncertain.

Trump's national security adviser, Mike Waltz, sought to downplay new details that emerged from a Signal group chat about strikes in Yemen. Waltz posted on social media that the information shared in the chat did not include "war plans," emphasizing that there were no specifics about locations or intelligence methods.

pretty funny watching people try to defend or minimize this

you know you can just say this is bad, right?

Yup, Sometimes in life you have to admit you screwed up. Own it, say you will fix it and let the American people know it won’t happen again. Should be so simple to do but egos make it nearly impossible I guess.

As Ferentz_Fan pointed out, even if it's ultimately deemed to be not classified, it's still sensitive.
Guess the administration shouldn't have gone in front of COngress and the media and lied about it then, forcing the reporter to clear his name. He offered to share in a SCIF, they declined. They are wholly responsible for any negative outcomes now.

Sorry...and I get it...but no. Goldberg was extremely circumspect in the original story. This admin then repeatedly attacked him and denied the truth. This might only sway a handful of cultists but absent this, the story dies in the darkness. This HAD to be made public to demonstrate for the record how utterly incompetent these people are. His word against their word accomplishes nothing. Had Goldberg not thrown back the entire curtain, I have zero doubt that they would be back on Signal tomorrow doing the same thing. I would like to wrap his story around a baseball bat, go to Congress, and beat those moral cowards bloody.

I had actually wondered about that. If there was a scramble to figure out who had this guy‘s contact information and has been leaking information to the Atlantic.
