Yes that's right. ESPN was actually interested in sending a crew to broadcast the game live (unclear which station, though most likely not ESPN main)..........and for whatever reason, the school officials at Dowling and/or Valley decided that it wasn't what they wanted.

And from the sounds of it, it had little (if nothing) to do with Covid.

P.S. I do not have all the details from the story that was shared earlier today, only what I heard this afternoon on KXNO.

Sounds like it was too last minute and they didn’t know how it would look with limited fans and camera crews being set up. So they declined.

I know Catholic schools don't need to follow suit, but the Des Moines schools have to kill sports next week because they are doing remote learning only.

You know what would be amazing...is if each new rona hot-bed state would learn from what happened in previous states before it got to them; I live in South Texas and the entire state was a stupid mess a month ago and HS football is happening everywhere now. Administrators act WAY too fast, is a knee-jerk reaction when one or two people get the virus.

So I get the narrative that we are a "hot bed" but so far how many hospitalizations of college students have their been in Iowa? And the hospitals are surely overrun right? Or maybe according to the IDPH only 20% of ICU's are filled. Hmm, well I'm sure we should all stay in doors under the covers and not do anything because of this "deadly" virus.
For the record I'm not saying cram 70K into a stadium either, but I think with the data and information we have, we know who to protect, and can get back to life at a reasonable level. It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other.

100% this. I don't buy into all the fearporn stuff, its all a little overblown. I was just in the DSM area three weeks ago for a wedding where there were 200 people; during that week I was also a passenger in multiple planes, ate out, hung out with long-time friends, and this was during the supposed up-tick leading to said 'hot-bed'. I feel fantastic. Could I have/had it, its a possibility, but my life is unchanged.

And here's your bigoted white trash comment of the week. It's a wrap folks. Try again next week to top this.

BLM is an avowed Marxist organization...not purported...not implied...they are openly, proudly, Marxist. So how the heck is it a "White trash comment" to acknowledge this. In fact, how does it have ANYTHING to do with race whatsoever...its you that are tossing around racial epithets, not Hawktrooper1. Have you NO decency...or even a shred of integrity?

MASSIVE difference between the organization and the sentiment the hashtag implies. The organization is garbage and a joke, while the sentiment is a given.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it spreads as much as we're being told. I think it all boils down to how well each person keeps themselves sanitized and how healthy we keep our immune systems.

Even it was last minute, I am surprised those two Des Moines schools would not want to have their game televised to a national audience. I would be interested to hear what the reasoning was that went into that decision. Doesn't make sense.

Please follow @HawkTex on your way over to the OT board and kindly close the door on your way out.

I noticed you forgot to say the same to Hawktrooper who actually MADE the racially derogatory comment and inserted his political perspective in attacking another message board poster.
Yeah but he agreed with that comment so it can stay in this board.

Really interested to hear what happened. How in the world do you say no to a nationally televised game?
