First half hour was pretty good. It got boring when Hillary came on. Didn't watch it all.

I usually DVR it and watch the cold open, the fake commercial, and Weekend Update, and sometimes the musical guest. Since Miley Cyrus was both host and musical guest, i had no interest in watching any of the skits or her music.

The cast is almost exactly the same as last season. The cold open with Taran Killam as Donald Trump and Cecily Strong as Melania was good but not great. The Abilify commercial had potential but kind of fell flat.

As I fast-forwarded the DVR to Weekend Update I saw Hillary and decided to watch. For those who missed it, Hillary played a bartender named Val and Kate McKinnon played Hillary, getting drunk on vodka and pouring out her troubles to Val. Darrell Hammond had a brief appearance as BIll, who stood at the end of the bar, saw two Hillarys and shouted "they're multiplying!" and ran out the door. The funniest part of the skit was when McKinnon, who is gay in real life, took a jab at HIllary for not supporting gay marriage sooner. The skit could have been better if Hillary had taken the time to memorize her lines instead of staring at the teleprompter the entire time when she should have been looking at McKInnon.

Weekend Update was just okay. Kyle Mooney as Pope Francis was painfully unfunny. Leslie Jones, Relationship Expert, is usually funnier, as are Colin Jost and Michael Che. I realize it's their first show back after a 4 month vacation, but they have a year under their belt hosting together and I expected more out of them.

Overall, kind of a disappointing season premiere. Amy Schumer hosts next weekend, so there's the potential for something controversial to happen.

Why would Amy Schumer want to host SNL when she has her own sketch comedy show?

For one thing, Schumer's show is on basic cable and draws about a million viewers. SNL is on network television and draws about 5 million viewers. That's a whole lot more exposure for her fledgling movie career.

It will be worth watching in '17 when they can feel comfortable doing sketches critical the sitting POTUS again.

I can only remember 1 critical Obama sketch in the last 7 years.(the School House Rock bit)
