"People who say they don't care about privacy because they've got nothing to hide haven't really thought too deeply about the issues. Because what they are really saying is 'I don't care about this right.'

"When you say 'I don't care about the right to privacy because I have nothing to hide' that's no different than saying 'I don't care about freedom of speech because I have nothing to say, or freedom of the press because I have nothing to write.'"

The question is-

Knowing what we know now, should the government have treated Snowden as a criminal?
Yes, because he knew what he was doing was wrong. Because he had other options. Because he is hiding in Russia, one of the more brutish, oppressive countries in the world.

It would be nice if people start to see him as a patriot. The idea that he was a traitor has been pretty thoroughly debunked.
Why should he be viewed as a patriot when he ran to a place that is known for spying and trying to destroy the country he says he loves?

Because the tyrants currently in charge of the country he loves would never let him again see the light of day. Self preservation is a natural human instinct.

So you run to some of the biggest tyrants on the planet?

Tyrants is a subjective term. Tyrant exists in every human being. If we assume that our country is the refuge of those who cherish freedom and liberty, but his statements and ideas reflect the truth, and he is running from this country, then it should call into question just how much freedom and liberty are being cherished here.

I can't figure you out. Sometimes you are so reasonable. Here you are 0-3.

He exposed a greater wrong.

Snowden satisfactorily explained why he chose not to use those other options.

Not Snowden's fault that he got trapped in Russia.

He had options. He could have stayed fought it in the court of public opinion and the courts as other brave whistleblowers have done. He chose to run and discourage some of most secret information to two countries who abuse their own citizens in the worse ways possible. Trapped???? What a joke. If we offered him full immunity he would be coming home on the next plane. He's no whistleblower, he is a traitor.

At first I saw him as a traitor...... Mainly because he ran to China and Russia. By he really hasn't hidden himself and continues to do interviews.

I think differently now based on all the injustices he's uncovered.

He does continue to do interviews but Putin does too. That alone does not make him any better.

If he had stayed he would be dead.

Tell me Obama's record on whistleblowers.
