It might have been blocked anyways, but it seems like that is against the rules with a defenseless long snapper.

With all the concerns about player safety why they allow hurdling at all over lineman on a special teams kick is mind-boggling.

We eject guys for making tackles if their helmet grazes the facemask of the opponent when there is a moving target but allow hurdling over lineman on kicks! As if that's not dangerous?

If you are within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage it is legal to jump over. Any further than that and it is a penalty. On that play he was on the line so it was legal.

Maybe since he contacted the snapper with his foot it could be a penalty.

Leverage and Leaping

ARTICLE 11. a. No defensive player, in an attempt to gain an advantage, may step, jump or stand on an opponent.
  1. It is a foul if a defensive player who runs forward from beyond the neutral zone leaps or hurdles in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or try. It is not a foul if the player was aligned in a stationary position within one yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.

As long as he doesnt use another player as leverage... its clean

There are some loopholes in the current college rule, and it’s not clear if those would survive. The biggest is that a player can’t be penalized if he leaps from the neutral zone or the other team’s side of it. That provision is what most clearly allowed Penn State’s Marcus Allen to leap and block a kick against Ohio State last year, leading to a touchdown runback that turned the Big Ten race on its head.

the rules were posted on another topic on HR and as long as he started with in 1 yd of the line it is ok.

#40 from PSU clearly puts his left hand on our snapper to help him vault over
the line. Is that a violation? Seem like it should be, but oh well.
