So is the B10 West better than the East?

Well, Michigan has an argument that they are better than anybody in the West. But anyone else?

It’s reaaaaaalllly close. I think we’d have a much different perspective if Purdue and Northwestern didn’t barf up on themselves in the nonconference. Obviously both of those teams have evolved and become much better than what they were when losing to Eastern Michigan and Akron.

its six to six in games between the West and the East with 4 games this coming weekend.

Indiana @ Minnesota
Iowa @ Penn State
Purdue @ Michigan State
Illinois @ Maryland

teams in bold won the last time the 2 teams faced one another...
Illinois and Maryland have never played one another

Iowa faces 3 teams the next 3 weeks who beat them a season ago.

also, Wisconsin plays at Northwestern next weekend...
if Northwestern beats Wisconsin, Iowa controls their own destiny.

This year all east teams get 2 home games against west, correct? And next year the opposite? Need to take that into account when comparing

As the numbers show, the two divisions are much more even . . . change TWO results and it would be exactly tied . . . than the talking heads would have people believe. Ohio State and Michigan and Penn State are automatically better than anybody else in the conference, period, end of story, every year, no matter what the results on the field are. And that isn't likely to ever change.

But again, the facts are there for anyone interested in reality over fantasy. And all teams like Iowa can do is keep beating Michigan and Ohio State and Penn State. The talking heads can make excuses for those results, but they can't change the final scores.

The divisions are once again dead even this year head to head at this point. In the four years now of this alignment, I believe that the East is exactly one game ahead cumulatively. Not nearly the imbalance of the perception that exists.

At this point, I think Purdue stands a better chance of beating Wisconsin than Northwestern does.

True but NW beat MSU @ MSU and Purdue took down tOSU after making stupid mental mistakes in the first two weeks of the season to lose to NW and Eastern Michigan. They could easily be 6-1 or 5-2 right now. They aren’t but a very dangerous team.

Why not just flatten it out (get rid of divisions) and the schedules are playing 9 of 13. Rotate 2 on, 2 off every 2 years. Then the conference championship game is the 2 highest rated teams in the playoff rankings.

its gonna take a miracle for anybody to beat Wisconsin.

They have to go to NW this weekend - tight win then play @ PSU and @ Purdue so I think they lose one of those three.

Iowa @ PSU, @ Purdue, @ Illini. If, big if Iowa can get by PSU and Purdue, really like their chances with NW at home, @ Illini, and finish at home vs Nebraska. Five games to go and it will be a dogfight till the last game.

Also, the B1G west has 4 teams with only 1 loss in conference play ... Michigan supplied Northwestern and Wisconsin with their one-loss. That's certainly a feather in Michigan's cap.

On the flip side, Ohio State had been looking like they were a top contender in the east ... and Purdue took them behind the woodshed. PSU seems vulnerable ... but they still could make some noise based on how they fare in their next 3 games (vs Iowa, @Michigan, vs Wisconsin).

After a 3-0 Saturday west vs. east is now deadlocked 6-6 by my count. 4 cross division games next week.

Not really. Wisconsin is very vulnerable on defense and if Purdue plays anything like they did yesterday Wisconsin is going to have a hard time stopping them. But that's a big "if". Remember, if Iowa doesn't make two special teams mistakes they likely win that game by 2+ touchdowns. Iowa lost that game, Wisconsin didn't win.

It's always hard to fight that perception when so many of the "blue bloods" are at the top of the East.
