So it wasn't Warren

We kind of knew this already ...................................

Well I thought it was obvious. But the 11 Presidents themselves could tell some of these people it was them and not Warren and still people would blame Warren. In fact, I've blamed Warren's less than stellar messaging on him actually wanting to play but having to sell a message he didn't want/believe.

It was Warren in cahoots with the leftist presidents who also were hearing from leftist governors and congressional reps - hello Amy Kloubacher. Wacko Whitmer led the charge and boy, is she special. The threat of sunshine via lawsuits and the disintegrating polls have forced their putrid, political hand into submission. Play ball folks, no thanks to democrats who want to make you miserable anyway possible. Great platform to run on.
you are an idiot .

Lmao I want to feel sorry for you but I don't. Being "miserable" based on a game played by 18-22 year olds is not on democrats, it's on yourself.

But sometimes I forget that a large part of this fanbase, my Hawkeye family, chooses only to watch Hawkeye sports and Fox news. Its not JUST Fox news or fear mongering CNN. Maybe just one time, shield yourself from ALL of the media we have in the US, and take a look at how the rest of the world is reporting our handling of a pandemic.

But here we want to politicize wearing a mask, and if we all came together and wore one in the first place (just like every other country that listens to its doctors), we'd actually be playing football right now.

But hey! Let's only tune in when they say "This is the greatest country in the history of countries, and the state of our times is the greatest state in the history of our times."

Congratulations, your brain has been compromised, and you're miserable because of your own doing.

These guys/gals are doing everything they can to keep kids on campus. Let's follow the guidelines, keep kids in school, and hopefully kick off in November.

It was the Michigan governor who wouldn't allow football in the state of Michigan that set the whole thing in motion.

Can you imagine the massive head spinning that would take place if it was verified that Warren was advocating to proceed with the Fall season as scheduled? So many are so sure otherwise.

I suspect that KW played more of a neutral role than most here believe mainly because the issue involved very substantial financial and widespread economic consequences. A decision with that kind of import across the entire league and all the communities and businesses they support is not finally decided by the Commissioner.

For the same reasons, it really needed to be decided collectively (and preferably "overwhelmingly"). Those voting in the minority basically had to concede their case and accede to the will of the much larger majority. A move to go rogue by any school would have surely sparked major litigation..... not really an option all things considered.

Here's the deal:

* There was no reason to rush the decision. Sep 26, when most teams start their schedule, is STILL 28 DAYS FROM NOW.

* Aug 11 is when Warren canceled fall football. That is 46 days before Sep 26, for those who are counting.

* ALL B1G ADs wanted to play fall football. Don't they have a say in this?

* The players clearly want to play. Those who don't have and will opt out. Don't they have a say in this?

* And now the B1G is considering playing over Thanksgiving weekend!! Why? Because Warren rushed the decision on Aug 11?

* And finally, the parents continue to "firmly reject" Warren's decision & follow up explanation.

Warren and Delany worked for the Presidents, and neither man could have made this call.
Delany never had an existentialtype call of this nature in his career. No blueprint for this. Warren was forced into this call.

It would be an interesting stat to know which way each school’s President/chancellor lean (politically). That could have been a factor in the vote. (Not so) great minds think alike.

Warren was said to favor the spring season approach before the meeting took place.https://www.freep.com/story/sports/...higan-msu-big-ten-football-season/3326536001/

yep, you people don’t get it articles like this are pushed by the media just to sow confusion. Question all, there is more out there than what CBS Sports and ESPN want you to believe.
The mainstream sports media is into it....

The Presidents didn't hire Warren and pay him the big bucks to ignore his recommendations. They hired him and paid him the big bucks to follow his recommendations so they could allocate their time to other important matters outside of Warren's purview. Warren recommended the season be postponed and (most of) the Presidents went along with his recommendation.

Dead on!

We know for sure that one university president is solidly conservative and he apparently voted to postpone the season. Purdue president Mitch Daniels is a two-time Republican governor of Indiana, former Director of the Office of Management and Budget for GW Bush, Sr., and was one of Ronald Reagan's top political advisors. He is an actual president with an actual vote in the matter.. ..but Gretchen Witmer. You can't make this shit up; people will believe what they want to believe.

My guess is you have a wide range of political leanings among the B10 presidents. The president of MSU is an accomplished microbiologist and an expert in infectious viruses and the inflammatory response He apparently voted "no" also.

No matter their respective backgrounds, in their present positions the football season is one item on a larger list of responsibilities and concerns so the play/postpone decision had to be evaluated as part of a much bigger picture.

Bruce Harreld is Republican, but his recent admonition of IC bar owners is more reminiscent of a Democrat.
That is because the bar owners were stupid to let the crowds in the bars and not think it was a bad idea at this time. They were looking at the $$ and not following guidelines

I just read this thread for the first time and this makes the most sense to me. It accounts for the divergence between the athletic directors who clearly wanted to play and the presidents who bring a different perspective to the table with a far bigger picture to concern themselves with. Why it never made sense to me to beat up the presidents over this.

I’m not sure this report necessarily contradicts the other reports we’ve seen that said there was some momentum to postponing to late September like the other conferences have done, but Warren and some of the presidents most against playing swayed the group towards pushing back to the Spring. Unless I missed it, the link in the OP doesn’t mention Warren at all, and that doesn’t necessarily mean he had no influence, just that he doesn’t get a vote.

He got played. Like a fiddle. He actually believed ACC, SEC, et. al., would follow him. Hell, half the doctors quoted/cited were from schools in those conferences.

I think three things lead to it:
1) The Rutgers 28 positives, followed by revelation of on-campus party by many of the players

2) The Facebook post from the mother of an Indiana player talking about possible myocarditis

3) The belief that ACC/SEC/Big XII would all fall in line.

The last one is KW getting played. Like a fiddle.

really the most logical explanation was that the Big 10 and Pac 12 thought the other conferences would all follow suit and cancel. It's pretty obvious that information was leaking to friendly media outlets (Teddy Greenstein, Pat Forde) about the Big 10 was cancelling, even before the Big 10 voted. My guess is that they thought everyone else would capitulate. Once the SEC, ACC and Big 12 said "not so fast" they have been forced into a position where they have to actually explain why the decision was made.

Just coincidence that during the DNC convention that they had commercials running showing empty Big 10 stadiums. If they rest of the leagues had thrown in the towel, the shots would have been of stadiums around the country and not just Big 10 schools.

Note that the Big 10 may end up proving to be right. But there really wasn't any reason to cancel when they did. It shows they weren't really committed to playing.

It's certainly a viable explanation that Warren badly overplayed his hand by virtue signalling, which he felt would position himself as a "leader" in the fight to "save the kids".

14 coaches and 3 Presidents FOR
11 Presidents against.

17-11 is a 3-2 margin FOR

So Warren went with the Presidents over the ADs.

You should count the ADs to ratchet up the score. All 14 ADs wanted to play. That makes it 31-11. How about the Assistant ADs? Maybe include the fans in your count as well. But, on the other hand, you forgot to include the members of the B1G Medical Advisory Board . . . you know . . . people with medical degrees.

Or . . . perhaps you need only look at the B1G's by-laws to see that the decision rested with the 14 Presidents and the Chancellors of the B1G.

But, hey, if it makes you feel better to maintain the fake premise that the new B1G Commissioner is a big bad boogeyman . . . have at it.

I meant to say "ADs" not "Coaches". Same thing essentially. I missed the phrase "big bad boogeyman" in my post. (spoiler alert, it's not there). The "AD" of the B1G went with the Presidents rather than the University ADs. There's no ridiculous shit like "boogeyman" in there. It's a simple observation.

Try decaf.

And yet every single.one of those presidents have kids in their dorms right now.....

Not sure how any of them can have thousands of young men and women in their campus housing knowing there is little likelihood of them maintaining safety protocols with what is described as an incredibly infectious virus while at the same time voting to cancel football for safety.

Fill the dorms with thousands not to mention the classrooms and that can be safe but playing football to an empty stadium is dangerous.

These decisions are not consistent

Correct. If you can't have sports with no fans, then there should be no kids on campus at all.
