So Trey Dickerson Plays for South Dakota?

Not really, the guy played one season and averaged like 5 minutes a game

Dickerson averaged 22 minutes per game with a 10.6 ppg scoring average. He averaged 2.8 assists to 1.1 T.0 and he had a 1.63 A/TO ratio. His 40 minute adjusted scoring was 18.6. Decent season.

Matt Mooney is the USD player to keep an eye on. He was Summit League Newcomer of the Year and 1st Team all-Conference after transferring from the Air Force Academy.

The other player is Tyler Flack, a 6ft8 senior F/C with a nice touch and can jump out of the gym.

The Coyotes are coached by Craig Smith who was formerly top assistant to Tim Miles at Nebraska.

Dickerson had a good year and played a lot better during the last 4-5 weeks. He likes to really push the ball the length of the court all the way to the rim but also showed good accuracy from 3. He is backed-up by Tristen Simpson, a true freshman from Lincoln, Nebraska who has some game also.

Looking forward to this match-up. I predict a high scoring contest.

Hawks should win by double digits but could be closer if Mooney gets hot.

Very nice assessment. Hope you are right concerning the outcome! :)

God I wish we had this slasher...he could break people down and get to the rim and make ALL the other players better players because that is the job of the PG to make ALL other players better players....blah blah blah

And we could move Bohannon to the two and have guards that average about 5'10"!!!!

Bet he's their leading scorer against us. Also will anyone clap for him? He quit and transferred so fast. I don't see boo's but not claps I'm sure he's happy about this game.

Anyone know the actual deal with him transferring? I know he didn't get much playing time, came off as kind of a knucklehead if I remember right. He seemed like he could've played though if he would've gained some experience.

Just guessing but he was brought in after Clemmons went though his sophomore slump so Dickerson was probably brought in to push him. Instead of transferring himself, Clemmons pretty much reinvented his game to be a very good defender and was able to see the floor. Dickerson, from most accounts, was a turnover machine and didn't know how to play D. Could've learned but didn't stick around to find out.

And IIRC, he transferred before the season was even over, which I think was the year we beat Davidson in the tourney.

I remember seeing him at PTL and thinking WTF. He was tiny. The old man couldnt believe was out of Jr. high. lol. Thats really my only memory...and that he ws the 2nd Trey in my lifetime to sign with Iowa and do nothing (Bullet)

The transfer has worked out well for both sides. Fran had Gesell and Clemmons and didn't see a lot of playing time for Trey and he has basically been a godsend up at USD in helping them bring their program up. I wish Trey nothing but the best and wished it would have worked out here for him, but it didn't and glad he is having a fine season at USD. Will be interesting as he could play lights out or try and do to much and hurt them in this game. I watched their game against SDSU in the tournament and Matt Mooney could be the key to the game. I think Cook/Wagner/Baer will be the ones guarding him and need to keep him from getting his shot. If he gets hot, could be difficult for Iowa to stop. Iowa should win this game by atleast 15, but might be closer than people think.

I remember Trey being very fast. I also thought i remember him dunking a few times. Not bad for a short guy

The last memory of Trey on the court in an Iowa uniform was him getting some late mop up duty in a blowout of Maryland or Rutgers. He knocked down a three and had a couple of blow by drives to the bucket and one of them resulted in a TO. The camera panned to Fran after the long 3 and he did not look happy. Iowa then traveled to Nebraska for their next game and Trey did not travel with them. I believe it was soon after that it was announced that Trey was going to concentrate on his studies the rest of the season and would look to transfer.

Yes, he did hit a couple threes the one game and then people started tweeting asking why he didn't get a chance and he was retweeting and favoriting all of them, so I cant imagine that went over well

I'm certainly glad Dickerson found a home, it was starting to seem like he would never find a place to play basketball and more importantly earn a degree. I think it helps that one of his coaches from his one year of Juco ended up at SD. A little stability. It always concerns me when playing time is the number one concern for a student/athlete, and when Trey announced he was transferring he made it clear why, and it was also clear he had no idea where he was heading. I thought McCaffery handled the situation very well. Stayed patient, supportive, and offered to help Dickerson in any way he could to relocate. The only thing Trey didn't seem to understand at first, after announcing his decision, was that he was no longer on the team. He even had a very short tweet, or whatever they are called (Trey loved twitter), where he expressed displeasure at being thrown off the team for no reason. He deleted it quickly, but, too late. Anyway, I've never decided what to think of that...kind of neat he was willing to put his notice in but continue to participate! But, it doesn't work like that, it's a distraction for the team.

The guys liked him. I liked him, and still do. He was brought in because frankly there was a chance Clemmons would transfer. And Clemmons showed what a guy can do when he decides to stand his ground, face his battles, and work hard. Big reason we enjoyed two 12-6 seasons in the Big Ten. Big reason. And when Trey announced he was transferring there was a nice article on Hawk Central where Clemmons said something about it. As I recall he tried to talk with Trey and encourage him to stay.

Anyway, the whole thing ended up one of the nicest See-Ya-Laters I've seen. Yet I suppose it will be natural for Dickerson to want to come in and show us all what we missed. Good. I hope he goes right into that hero ball stuff that cost him a chance at playing time, and I hope his defense is as good as it was at Iowa. :) One warning for Bohannon. During his one season in the PTL, or maybe just before it, he tweeted a warning to Hutton, Fleming, maybe Wagner too...that he was going to block their shots. I think he has a little short guy syndrome! Trey just might spend all game trying to block one of your shots, Jordan. Beware the mighty Bullet Trey. :D

It's a neat little story line to have Dickerson back in Carver. I'm sure it will be friendly, and competitive.

Dickerson was one of many Hawkeye recruits who was a huge supporter of the team on social media, only to transfer or decommit later. People who are over the top in their social media enthusiasm as recruits rarely seem to pan out (see, eg, Andrew Fleming, Niko, a recent football recruit who I won't name...)

Trey quit the team around February 23rd. Not sure why he couldn't finish the season.

Thank you for linking that. I remember reading it at the time but it was a nice blast from the past to remind me that this point guard stuff has been going on forever. Woe was us. Two soon to be seniors and nobody to replace them, what would we do....what would we do...woe, despair and agony on us! :p

Holy cow...I've figure it out...it's the farmer thing! "How are your crops doing?", and it could be the perfect freagin' season to grow stuff but the answer you'll get is all doom and gloom. "Well, so far so good but this perfect weather breeds weeds and insects! I suppose if I could sell weeds and insects things would be alright. But then the coming drought and flash floods, yes at the same time don't interrupt! I was saying I suppose the coming BAD WEATHER will kill off the weeds and bugs so I can't even sell them! Say, you aint with the DNR are ye? I don' like me no DNR tellin' me my business."

Does seem to be that way often.

There is a reason we didn't win 1 of the 5 games we could have in order to be in the NCAA tournament. Having a a second PG capable of doing something would have helped in countless situations, but you are right, let's just play Bohannon the entire game all season for the next 3 years. Driving, creating, defending, having fresh legs, insurance against injuries, foul trouble, etc., are all overrated.

There are 10-12 guys that played in those games, but if you want to hang it on one kid whose plus/minus for those games were probably leading the team then....shows your basketball IQ.

Bohannon didn't even average 30 mpg!
